Well with the way gas prices are going and the fact I hate running to stay in shape to ride my raptor I'm going to get a bike to commute on. I went looking around for the best half the day and was looking for something I could ride all day on the trails, jump stupidly, and basicly do what ever my heart desires yet still be somewhat comfortable. I am use to doing everything on a BMX but as I get older my body hates the small bike more.

So I'm thining of getting a Specialized Enduro. My local shop has one for around $2800 and I know it is a decent bike but my question is for the money would I be better off with a different brand or building my own bike? I'm trying to get all opinions before I make my purchase at the end of the month. Like I said I will use it to ride to work, down hill, jump, trail ride and pretty much everything. Heck Whistler isn't that long of a drive from me so I want opinions ;-). I would go hard tail but not knowing alot about mountain bikes in general I figured I would ask before jumping on a full supension bike if it won't be able to hang. Thanks for any input in advance.

Well, hardtails are good because those big shocks soak up alot of energy. but i know some cannondales have a thing on the bars where you push it, and it becomes a hardtail. i would go with that.

Enduro's are great bikes IMO, I have a 01' Enduro pro HT (hard tale) and love it.

I dont think they make an enduro hard tale any more so If you get the enduro make sure it has a lockout on the rear, will make the ride to work much nicer.

The enduro I was looking at had look outs on the front and rear shocks which would be nice for climbing with.

well I have a specilized big hit and its great! I spent 800 for the bike then 650 on a bomber front end then 150 on new rims and like 200 on seats,peadles,bars ect its a great bike once you replace all the cheap little components and I can do 10-15 foot drops and still keep up with the cross country guys.It weighs about 45 lbs witch isent too bad.I mostly do downhill,cross country,dirt jumping and free ride around town (benches,stair cases,cars...lol) If you just buying this to commute on get like a treck liquid.I race down hill and cross country and havent even spent that much..so I would start out with some thing a bit cheaper and up grade it as you progress or if dont mind spending the money go for the enduro...I just dont like hard tails...

The enduro is nice but there is better out there. For the money check out the giant reign 2. Ive never been a fan of giant but this bike is dialed. And for the price (2500.00 sug ret) its a steal. If you want to have your cake and eat it too... The Santa Cruz Nomad. Its a kick a#& ride and worth every penny. I just picked one up for 3400.00. Its 6.5 inches of heaven on two wheels. It pedels awsome up hill and rides better down. I do alot of trail ridding here in northern utah with a little double black diamond in deer valley 2 or 3 times each summer. Both of these bike do it better than most.:mrgreen:

is it a 6'' disc in the back?mine has 8'' front and back and I have 6'' or travle front abd back for a cheaper price.but between the to the santa cruz cuz I hait giants...lol

Im a big bike guru. Im gonna give you the most helpful piece of advice you will EVER get EVER. Dont get a fully (commonly refered to as full suspension, dual suspension). When you pedal all your energy gets absorbed by the rear shock. Get a hardtail. A overall good hardtail is a kona stuff or cowan. Show me the bike you want to get, I can help you decide. Dont get that "artwork" bike^^ That bikes a total XC ( cross country) bike. You dont wnat it. Show me what you want, I can problably help you.

There is a huge difference between a ten foot drop and a 15. And keeping up with cross guys on a 45 lb bike that is so slack in geometry that you cant pedal uphill without wheelieing- not gonna happen.

Maniac- In my opinion if you are gonna drop that kind of cash, just build up the bike you want from scratch. Get a good frame and fork, and component sets can be had for cheap. I would recommend a Santa Cruz any day. I have a few and they ride great. The Nomad or the Heckler would probably suit you best. As long as you arent gonna drop stuff more than 4-5 feet and you are smooth, they will last a long time.


p.s. I am faster on my dual suspension than I am on my hardtail. Plus my joints it MO BETTA

A heckler would be a great bike to build up on. To many know it all on here now. :roll:
Also if you commute you might want a cheaper bike for that. Many bikes get stolen if they are locked up in the same spoat 8 hours a day 5 days a week.

Well, if you want a great XC/trail bike then I would highly recommend my Yeti AS-R sl. Its a fantastic bike. Although if you want more suspension travel the I would recommend the Yeti 575. Its based on a similar frame as mine but with even more travel.

Guys guys guys. Remember, he wants to be able to jump and stuff too. Get A heckler. Even a norco sasquatch would be great. THan you could build it up lots, it'd be better than a yeti all done out.
