Michigan Roll Call

Clod

Got my clod running tonight and its nice. Slow and steady with a set of Revo Tires and wheels on it. All the wheels I have right now so will wait for a set of mashers should be here end of week. Running 1 inch wideners and I think it will be enough. Also have a pair of axel snapper motors with 5 pole armatures and 55 turns winding, adjustable motor mounts and running 8 tooth pinions. Don't have a body yet so will probably use a e-maxx body I have here thats been used. Very pleased with the way this has turned out. Jerry"thumbsup"

oh great jerry, sounds like u built a killer huh?geez u guys are making me and my poor man's home built clod nervous..........jerry post ur clod, i gotta see it."thumbsup" btw i wanna go clod parts shopping at ur house jerry cause i need things . later...

Hey Skinner,, My clod is poor man's also as the frame and chassis was made by one of the members here on the forum and I've had the axels for a while so not a real lot of money in it. I bought the motors because they were 24.50 for two of them and they seem to be what I was looking for. Will know more as I run them but I do know they are longer than most motors so not real happy about that. Will have too take some pictures and get them on the site, probably next couple of days. Take care, Jerry"thumbsup"

Hey Jerry, I heard those motors suck on 6 cells. 12-14 cells are recommended. Just an FYI

I got about 20 minutes run time on them in the house tonight and also running 2 645mg servos so not all that bad, and the battery still had lots of juice but will know for sure in a few more days, Right now I would have to say who ever told you that had or got ahold of some bad ones. Jerry

I think that's great if they work for you!! Heck I might get a few for that price, but I did a search on the axle snapper motors and it seems that every said the same thing, too slow and they are a 24 volt motor. I read that holmeshobbies has them for $12.05 ( http://www.rccrawler.com/forum/showthread.php?t=41348&highlight=pole ) shipped but I don't know if he still has them in stock.

:)

The one thing I don't like is the length and if nothing else there worth changing for that, as I can't move the shock bracket where I want it as the motor is there and the shocks will hit if I move it where I would like. So down the road I will have a pair of 55t lathe motors but no real hurry. Jerry

hiya, i heard those motors are like a 1/2in longer than standard 540 cans so i brought 55t instead. still i need motor mounts, been trying to make them.aaaarrrgggg-maybe i will just order them with 8/9 gears..btw u got lots of tire/wheel sets jerry?

Had just one extra set of wheels and tires and still just one set. Mashers and velocity serries 40 wheels just came today. Jerry

New Clod

Had the clod on the rocks today and it was quite nice. It didn't have a problem anywhere I went. Think I want to try a seperate receiver pack just to see if there is any improvements as the seperate pack would have 6 volts as it is a 5 cell 2/3 a pack. Have a picture I"thumbsup" will post. Jerry

The chassis is a homebrew NN and everything set up very nicely. Nice articulation very smooth. Jerry"thumbsup"

well jerry nice e-maxx.............ooops i meant clod"thumbsup" . i also noticed rock pile and pond? plus seems like a pcv vent is watching u as a marker:lol:. show pic with body off.my clod is homemade nn'ish too and they seem to work well unless the rest of u have pimp canes.oh boy.later..

Just took it back apart as the end of the axel housing, where the bolt goes through into the
d part is cracked. Just noticed it so will wait till I get it back together to take more pictures. The 8 links are 6 3/8 inches long and have a 16 1/4 inch wheelbase with links on the lower bolt and also have 5 inches ground clearance. The pond where some of the rocks are is 34 ft long and 14 ft wide with a depth of 32 inches and has Koi in it. I have at least 20 pickup loads of rocks skattered around the property I use for landskaping plus a lot more on the back yard train layout. Enough to make it interesting for climbing but not really enough to make it a steady place for rock climbing. Another couple of loads would make it quite nice. Jerry

 jerry got rocks.....btw get ur clod fixed...my nn'ish is 14wb with esp 2 long links that were on my orginal chassis.hey jerry u think the lhs near you has pinions? i was pm'ed what i call a trick  and gonna be ready to be slow dog..later

They might have some pinions as they would be 32 pitch same as the emaxx. I'll call them in the morning and find out for sure what they have. I think I have 1 extra 9 tooth pinion but might have to use it later if the two 8 tooth I have in the clod don't work right. Looked good yesterday so might not. Jerry

Clod Chassis

For those of you that wanted to see the chassis with the body off, I just took a couple of pictures of it. The chassis was made by Shrek and is like the one he runs in super class. Made a few more changes in the running gear also but I couldn't find the parts I needed today and just put it back together to get these pictures. I need the E tree or the axel tubes as I have 1 cracked. Heres the pictures, Jerry"thumbsup"

Clod looks great!!"thumbsup"

BTW I finally took my rig over to the spot I posted about at Oakland U(pics a few pages back). I thought the rocks would be too big for my little 2.2, but it worked real well. This place is awesome, and it's about 2min from my work so I can go play at lunch. My rig is a bit top heavy, so this made climbing some of the grades difficult. I'd love to see some superclass crawlers run here......Anyone works in Pontiac, Auburn Hills, etc. LMK we could get together at lunch for a crawl session.
