No. Undergearing doesn't cause brushless motors to overheat.
under gearing can completely fry a motor from the inside out. ive done it before. back when a backslash was the "in" thing.
tires and wheel yes. the servo has been swapped out too. its been through 3 bodies already.
I think the best tires on this truck (for racing) is panther boas. it gets a lot of forward traction but in the corners the spaced out lugs let the tires slide preventing traction roll.

Really? Even with a brushless motor that has no scrubbing parts, unlike a brushed motor? I've never seen that happen.
How much undergearing is necessary to cause a brushless motor to overheat? I ask because jrecnker was talking about undergearing caused by running smaller tires, which is way different from having a pinion gear half the size it should be. I seriously doubt it would be so undergeared as to overheat the motor, assuming it was geared properly before he changed the tires

so, I stuck a 2200 kv non sensored motor in a backslash.. didn't gear it right. within five minutes the wire labeled "a" burned up inside the motor. molten copper all inside. the smell was in my barracks room for a week. this was 3 years ago. had fun doing wheelies for 70ft though.
its easy to burn up a motor or esc. your best bet is to stick with the gearing the mfr. recommends and fine tune going up or down a tooth and watch your temps. "thumbsup" but imho this doesn't apply to comp crawlers unless you have a losi..

Huh. I knew brushed motors could overheat from undergearing, but brushless motors having the same problem is news to me. I guess I've never undergeared any of my motors enough to notice.
Damn, what do you need 3 spare sets for? Are you really burning through them that fast, or do you have a fleet of Baja Reys now?

Ah. Mine are still nice and smooth. I did shim the front and rear diffs straightaway though.
mine removed enough material that I had to shim them. otherwise crunch under hard accel..
but anyways.. my gf wants a Baja rey really bad... she has a few 22sct and a 22t. she cant drive my 22-4 or my rey. its to hard she says. but come Christmas time, she is gonna be in 4x4 sct class with a pink and black Baja rey, she don't even know it yet!

The Baja Rey has a longer wheelbase than a 4x4 SCT. Are you sure it will be legal? Also, if she thinks it's too hard to drive, why not get her a normal SCT instead?
its legal where im racing. been racing it since ive got it. as long as it doesn't have 17mm hexes, you should be good.
she just isn't used to 4x4 racing. currently she runs in 2wsct mod class with me and 7 others.
once the video comes out for last race you can see how well the Baja rey stands up to 4x4 sct's. its quite amusing. that's if you haven't seen my videos before.

2wd rey is straight bad ass!! Not intended for beginners or bashers. Takes some driving skill to drive a truck with this much power to a locked rear end. Got about 4 packs so far, everything's holding up good. Completely different truck.

Looks good man. I can only get RWD vehicles to handle that well if I have a gyro attached, mainly because I don't want to be bothered constantly monitoring for excessive wheelspin and easing-off the throttle to bring the rear axle back in line.

Im running 22sct wheels and they are a bit smaller so I'm going to bump up a tooth on the pinion and see if that helps. Also bought a brand new battery just to rule that out. Thanks for all the input guys. the 2wd is badass btw
but going straight isn't fun all the time. unless your driving a wheelstanding gasser.
