LEGO light buckets

I’m not sure if this had been done before but I wanted to share. In the process of keeping this current rig “budget friendly”, I’ve had to get creative. I didn’t wanna fork out the cash for some of the great 3D printed parts out there so I decided to make my own! LEGOs to the rescue!
Some glue, bench grinder, hobby knife and silver paint.. time and creativity.
Tell what you guys think.

5mm leds fit perfectly in the big holes of the legos btw. Wiring came for a donor cat5 cable, solder and heat shrink.

I like the Lego light buckets.. Nice idea. I've also used Lego's... made non functioning taillights for my scx24 ( Simpsons Scratchy head and axe too lol).

Thanks man! We have a six-year-old so Legos are in abundance. When it came time to do the lights my thought process was some kind of container that I could use or cut down. I saw the Legos in the corner and the lightbulb went off. When I push the 5 mm LED perfectly into the hole I knew it Was meant to be.

Genius! I got a bucket of Lego and never thought about this. Especially, to use the clear round "one" stones as a taillight! - I see entire light bars in the future

Regarding the clear round ones... since they're hollow you could definitely e6000 some actual functioning bulbs in there. I considered doing that.

I'll give that a go too. I'm all for money saving tips at the mo..

in the same spirit, unwanting to pay rc4wd prices for some leaf spring hanger shackles (£40 odd for a set) , I realised the links used on the cheap magnifying glass solder holders are pretty much the same size, and you get x8 of them per unit! £6 on eBay.

I have mixed feelings on this...

As an RC geek, I think it is a great way to repurpose something, and, with a little bit of whittling, a great way to make a light bucket.

On the other hand, as a Lego geek, I am mortified.

Oh how many times I have looked around for that lens or bucket and oh how many times the Lego lay hidden in the cupboard...

...but yeah, no doubt i would hate to be responsible for sacrificing a n indicator light from the millenium falcon

True, true! Life long LEGO geek here too! I don't know if I could really steal one of my cherished LEGO pieces from my childhood and whittle it into a light bucket!:ror:

BUT, I could go to my local Walmart and pick up some MEGA BLOKS or other knock-offs and chop them up!

As much as I love repurposing objects not likely used and cringe at the thought of cutting Lego’s, 3D printers are sub $200 now and faster than ever. I picked up an anycubic recently and kills my ender 5 in quality and speed.
