Jato The Trail Finder 2 - Leaf Spring Mafia Edition

A number 60 o-ring from the plumbing parts section of Lowes or home depot. about $4 for 10. I have read that a 7" figure is the right size.
#60? Thanks.

I got two 6" figures this weekend and they don't fit in the TF6. The torso is too long so when I sit them on the seat their head hits the roof.

there is some debate about what scale the Tf2 really is ? Scale builders guild said 7" or 8", I don't have a driver in mine just going by what I read ?

I'm honestly really happy with the way this truck looks. I'm not going to glue on the bed cargo hooks. It won't take much to knock those off on the trail which will leave behind a glue mess so I'm just going to avoid that mess altogether.

If Mother Nature cooperates, and she really hasn't all year, this truck will get its first trail run on Sunday.

Jato, did you run into any issues mounting up those Pitbull 1.55 tires?

I just got a set and planned to use Boom racing wheels and cannot get the bead to stay in to save my soul!

I took my TF2 to the test and tune session on Saturday, but I use good judgement and I kept it in my car. I didn't want to break it before the trail run on Sunday which was to be at a place much less extreme than the test and tune location.

It drives me nuts that this color doesn't photograph correctly in bright sunlight. It looks neon, and while very bright, it does not glow like it does in some of these photos.

I built the truck stock for this very reason. I wanted to get a stock baseline before I started making any changes.

The biggest hindrance throughout the day was the low hanging rock anchor, I mean transfer case skid plate. I have the Bowhouse skid, but I didn't install it, again, to get a baseline of stock performance.

Got flex? We don't need no stinkin' flex!

Group shot.

More capable than it looks.

My TF2 next to my Dad's junkyard Dingo that was mentioned in my TRX-4 Bronco thread.

Overall, I have to say that, despite my complaints about the poor quality of this truck kit, it performed much better than expected on the rocks. I'm a fan. Do I love it? No. Do I like it? Yes. Will it stay in my stable long term? That's to be determined. I need more trail runs on it for sure.

I wouldn't say it glowed in the sunlight. I mean, I was afraid to take my sunglasses off due to the possibility of extreme retinal damage when looking at it, but glow might be too strong a word.

:)

It is a cool color in person.

The stock skid is definitely a shovel. Let us know how the Bowhouse version compares once you get it installed!

:ror:nice. I was actually going to ask what brand and color of paint you used on this on Jato. I have been looking for that shade of blue. My first pickup was a faded version of it.

I have the Bowhouse skid plate on my Lwb, it made a huge difference. lots more clearance,

Glad you got it out on the rocks, the truck is looking good.

Drivers are a pain for two reasons the hilux is a small cab in 1:1, and the right size driver doesn’t want to fit in. 1:10.

I always end up doing surgery on my drivers. Shave their butts off and they’ll fit better.

Thank you! "thumbsup"

Are the drivers you started with 6" or 7"? I have a couple 7" guys that might fit if I hack them up. I'm afraid the 6" figures would look too small in proportion to the truck.

I guess it's time to do "plastic surgery". :lmao:

The drivers are 7”. The 6” figures look really small.

So I end up chopping the drivers up a lot. The Mulder figure I used in the TF2 was really cut down. I also chopped some of his neck, and he barely has a butt. However when you look into the cab, it still looks pretty normal.

It takes a while but it’s worth it.

If you look in my hilux truggy thread I went into detail on how I fit the driver in.

*i keep trying to upload a photo to show ya, but I’m getting an error.

I've had the RC4WD Mojave LED light kit lying around for a while. Last night I decided to install it.

When I opened up the package I saw that RC4WD didn't bother with labeling the lights. Even the cheapest of cheap Chinese kits label their LED colors.
Fail #1. So I attached the LEDs to a receiver, ESC, and LiPo to power them up.

While installing the kit I realized that the front of the truck has 8 light buckets - 2 headlights, 2 side marker lights, 2 marker lights in the bumper and 2 turn signals. The LED light kit only includes 6 "bulbs" for the front? Whiskey Tango Foxtrot?! Fail #2. RC4WD strikes again. You can't make this stuff up. :lmao:

So I had to decide between one:

and two:

Two looks better to me because in the first setup the turn signals look like an orange bulb behind a white lens. There's no diffusion going on.

So one it is...

And then onto the rear. There are something like 10 light buckets in the rear - 2 marker lights and each taillight has 4. Guess what. RC4WD gives you 4 LEDs for the rear and they're all red. Womp, womp! Fail #3 :lmao:

So the marker lights each get a red LED and each taillight gets 2 LEDs.

The back is now lit, yo!

Am I nitpicking? Yes, but these are the easy, little things that just shouldn't be missed.

Don't waste your money on this kit. :flipoff: RC4WD. It's really no wonder that their half assed products have given the name RC3WD over the years.

I think it looks cool. Now it's time to light up the Blazer body for which, unfortunately, I also bought the RC4WD LED kit. I can't wait to see how many LEDs are missing on that kit. :lmao:
