Horrendous Tire Smell...

The factory AX-10 tires have a horrendous smell. I thought I would keep the stock tires for display purposes for my front office area, but dang, I can't take the smell anymore. Do all the tires smell this way such as Losi, etc.?

What can you do to get rid of the smell other then crawl and get them dirty..?
Any and all help is appreciated...

It's the release agent that Axial uses. Just set them outside in the sun for a few days and it will get better. Guys also where soaking them in water with lemon dish soap.

take the tires off and wash them in the washing machine with powdered soap.

that will take care of it.

We used Simple Green. Got rid of the stench (after a day or so) and softened the tires a bit in the process.

The powder laundry detergent will neutralize the PH in the tire and eliminate the release agent.

Wash for 5 minutes then stick in the dryer for 5 minutes on high. Not only will the smell go away, the Axial tires will work better as well.

I would like to know what the release agent is because after 2 hours of putting them together I had to use my inhaler so I could stop wheezing. I have since let them sit outside all the time. The other tires, losi and pro-line do not smell bad at all.

Exactly, during the building phase the house living room smelled so bad it caused a reaction to a friend with asthma there should be a warning label pertaining to just that...

I tried washing the tires two times in the washing machine but with liquid soap to no avail... We don't use powdered soap (Plumber live in forbids it) so I will have to come up with something else. Currently they are outside basking and it is rather windy today. (live in the panhandle) so we shall see if that helps at all. If not I guess I will have to go to a local laundry facility and they should have a small box of powdered soap we can buy there...

Strange.. the stink from mine went away once I got them mounted. I think it's the FOAMS that smell worse than the actual tires.

But the smell didn't really bother me... My dad Laid carpet all his life, and I used to help him quite a bit... and they smell just like carpet glue... brings back lots of memories for me...

Everything in the box took on the smell... But that is pretty much airing out and gone. Now the foams smell from being inside the tires I know... These tires have been out in the open for at least a week now... They are currently sitting outside ontop of my truck basking in the sun/wind...

I think it's the FOAMS that smell worse than the actual tires.

Mmm the Rock Lizrd Smell

My wife threatened to throw the whole truck out, so I filled a gallon zip lock with simple green and soaked them for 24 hours. The foams reeked too, but once the tires were mounted, and minty fresh, all was good. "thumbsup"

I just stuck mine in the garage until the smell went away. Wife complained a ton while I was working on it in the house, though.

most of my tires have the same issue.. my wife gets pissed off when im working on the rig in the basement... ive got my new rubber airing out ing the garage.... and i will admit.. they reak... migth be timre for some simple green!

Gawd forbid you leave it in the car all day. I took my stocker in to work, with the rig in the front seat of my car all day. When I opened the door @ lunch, the smell poured out of my car. After that, I ran them in the dirt and rocks... kinda went away. Sealed in dirt!

Thats just it I wanted to keep the lizards for show purposes only. I know they are horrible for climbing as to my decision. Pick up a pair of claws to play with.

After that, I ran them in the dirt and rocks... kinda went away. Sealed in dirt!

Dirt has iron, and will absorb a lot of things... This is why you rub your hand in dirt when you get gasoline on them. It will help at least some, being that the release agent is most likely cooked into the rubber itself during the process I doubt there is really anything that can be done other then release over time...

I hate to put them into the dryer, or leave them outside in direct sunlight. The tires are rubber after all and heat will make them shrink. The thing about rubber as well is if it does shrink it will not shrink evenly all around...
