Just pulled the trigger on one of the Holmes Hobbies 1800kv Revolver motors. I know they are sensorless motors but I’ve seen a few guys running them and they seem to be torque monsters so always been curious about running one. My question is what should I pair it with for an ESC? It will be going in a class 2 trail rig, full hardbody and interior. I currently am running a Mamba X and a Holmes puller pro stubby 3300 in my comp rig and love that setup.

Price is not really that huge of a deal I just want something that will perform good with this motor. So any recommendations would be great.

The Mamba X or Mamba Micro X are both great ESCs. Also the Holmes ESCs are good.

My Bomber with the 1800kv Revolver is using a Mamba X and works out great - love having the Aux Wire feature that allows me to use the 3rd channel on my radio to turn the drag brake on and off.

I run 3S and occasionally 4S for a bit of extra fun...

Mamba x with aux wire is good, but the absolute best for smoothness on a sensor less motor is the sidewinder 4 because it has newer hardware with cryo drive.

Frankly, I couldn't imagine any more smoothness during slow speed creeping up and down nearly vertical rock than what I'm currently getting on the Mamba X / Revolver combo...

...and the Sidewinder 4 is capped at 3S maximum cell count.

Also, the Mamba has a high-powered BEC, whereas the Sidewinder only has a 5.0 volts fixed, 2 amps peak BEC.

If those limitations are OK - then the Sidewinder can be an excellent choice.

Mamba X or sidewinder 4. Sidewinder has a slight edge on low speed startup and smoothness, but the X isn't far behind. The X has way more features otherwise, like aux wire and being able to use more than 3s

Mr. Holmes himself said the Sidewinder 4 is a smoother sensorless controller than the X series. So if you only plan on running sensorless and don't care about the Auxiliary wire get the Sidewinder 4. If you may switch to sensored or want the use of the Auxiliary Wire get the Mamba X.

Looks like it’s been pretty well covered, but I’m running the Mamba X with my 1800kv Revolver as well. Awesome set up!

Do you think a 10-11lb SCX10 ii would be too heavy with the 1800KV and mamba X or Holmes Hobby Trail master BLE Pro? Also which ESC would you all recommend if either combo can handle that weight? I was thinking the HH due to price, but have heard great things about the Mamba X.

I currently have a castle micro X esc with castle 2850 crawler motor. I do scale trail/crawls mixed with some beach runs every now and then. Its at 8.5lbs and I'm thinking of adding a little more weight which is why I'm looking at a different brushless motor. Thanks in advance for the info!

No, both ESCs will be fine with that rig. The Mamba X is one of the best off the shelf ESCs available, and the BLE Pro is still a very good ESC.

Awesome. Is the HH BLE waterproof? I know they sell waterproof ones, but on the ESC/Motor combo section the one showed doesn't say "waterproof" so I'm assuming its not.

Unless I hear otherwise I'll plan to get the 1800 with Mamba X and call it good.

They currently sell it as non-waterproof, but offer waterproofing for $10, I believe.
I bought mine last week without waterproofing, and coated it myself.

This question gets asked a lot and it always makes me think of this build:

That 8x8 build weighs somewhere north of 32 lbs and runs a single Revolver with no shortage of power.

So, no SCX10, TRX4, or any other scale truck will ever be heavy enough to be beyond the power output of a Revolver.

What kind of gear ratio is that thing running?
