How many of you guys changed your spring rates when loosing all that weight?
I wonder if you could ditch the adapter. Run the bottom screw right into the motor and then make a little tab that bolts to the trans and motor?
Might have to use 2 screws on the trans side so it doesn't just pivot and loose mesh.

That's possible, but you would need to use much bigger pinion gears, at least with the OD-3 anyway since you can't pit a bigger spur in. I put it through some pretty hard binds the other day doing some more testing with it and it performed fine, so maybe my fears were unfounded.
I think I am going to mill the front of the OD-3 trans down anyway to get better engagement between the pinion gear and motor shaft as well as move the motor back to get some more room to mount my battery on the front axle. I might end up switching to some smaller battery packs anyway since the 1400mAh packs I am running are a bit overkill.
It's definitely sitting up higher now, but the stability is still improved since the majority of the weight I lost was sprung weight. Once I get everything finalized, I'll probably look into some lighter springs to get it sitting back down where it is supposed to.
True, but with portals, you're probably on the upper end (crawler wise at least) of pinion sizes. If it fits a 9 centered, do you think a 16-18 would fit offset?
You could also build more misalignment in your tab to rotate the motor closer to the spur. I picture something with 2 holes for the trans slot and then it's own slot to rotate the motor. Maybe you could 3d print it?
Won't that potentially make it so you can't go back to normal 5xx motors? I know my stock capra motor needs the shaft trimmed for this trans. Not a big deal, but I'd be more hesitant with nicer motors.
Hard to say without trying it or having a good drawing or model of the OD-3. I wouldn't want to go any larger than a 17T pinion anyway which is accommodated with the normal OD-3 adjustment range. You could make a mount that clamps around the OD of the motor, then you would have limitations on how deep the motor could be installed.
OD-3 clones are cheap enough, I would just buy another one off AliExpress if I needed to. I think I am satisfied enough with the Fusion Mini16 at this point to commit to building my setup around it.
It's supposed to rain tomorrow so hopefully I will have some time to switch out the Fusion SE 1800 in my OG 1/10 Redcat Ascent for the mini16. I recently got the 87t 48p spur gear with slipper eliminator that Redcat came out with to reduce gear reduction. After too much math, with a 9t pinion and 87t spur the calculated no load speed would be 6.2 mph which is a hair faster than I would like.
Are you guys running metal beadlock wheels? I think I will have to put some other wheel/tire combo on there as my steel wagon wheels/tires add up to 1.98 lbs and I am thinking this little motor would be happier with less rotational weight.

I'll be curious what you think about how those 2 compare as before I saw the mini 16 just figured I'd do the se1800
