FusionPro Mini16 in 1/10

Mini 16 showed up today. I need to swap the plug to xt60 and add a jst for my servo. Still waiting for the pinion adapter and I'll be able to swap it into the zoku.

As long as you don't overheat it (over geared), the only concern I have is potentially bending the small diameter shaft. It should be fine, but time will tell.

Mine came in today too. Going to order the od4 transmission and some more dlux driveshafts tomorrow or Friday.

Just in case anyone was wondering, the mini 16 won't fit a VFD with stubby kit. Its too long.

How much does your truck weigh?

Gearing is one concern I have. The transmission I'm looking at only has 3:1 reduction. I think running a 9t pinion might be ok. May have to swap to UD gears in the portals. I currently have OD portal gears front and rear since the old Vanquish UD gears had a reputation for breaking. They've done some redesigns on them over the past few months and are supposed to be stronger now.

Just weighed the truck. Currently sitting at 5lbs 12oz. I could easily drop some weight if i wanted/needed. This is running the jconcepts tucked k10, my aluminum grill, headlights, inner fenders, etc.

Just the motor swap should drop a 1/4 lb if my conversion is correct (~120 grams). I can't remember, but I believe I'm running the stock 56t spur and 15t pinion on the fusion se in that car. I'll likely pick up a 9t pinion as well to start.

I think it'll be fine for crawling. Heat isn't a big concern since it easy enough to keep an eye on while testing. I figure worst case I bend the shaft and it's a $60 failed experiment.

I stopped in to hobbytown to pick up a pinion for this motor. I ended up having them solder the connectors for me while I was there. They also had a 2mm to 1/8" adapter. I'm going to see if i can drill this out to fit the motor. If not the right adapter is on the way from Japan. Lol

I've heard of some people also using a 2mmx3mmx0.5mm brass sleeve stock off ebay @ 200mm long. Never tried, but should be able to make a bunch from it

I was looking at brass initially before finding the actual adapter. With 32p gears there is probably enough engagement that it doesn't need to be perfect, but it'll run smoother and quieter if it's closer to perfect.

That said, drilling out the 2mm adapter worked as well as I expected, not as well as I hoped since the one end is open. It's got a slight wobble. It fit well enough to test the install, but I'll wait for the proper adapter before I really run the car.

Anyone got theirs installed yet? I got mine in the mail Saturday and drilled out a Latrax 14T pinion with a #43 drill to get it to fit the motor (2mm is apparently not the same as 2.3mm). I am still waiting on the motor adapter on its way from China and I still need to solder on an XT60 and JST connector for my direct power servo. I am getting excited for this experiment, hopefully it works out well.

I've ran mine in an Senero SE for about 4 hours at this point and working really well.
Started off with a 9tooth and went up 10. This is part trail rig and part rock crawler.

How does it do if you really bind it up? The fact you went from a 9T to 10T pinion is promising.

Went to the 10T as i didn't want to keep it at full throttle for trailing and i felt it was doing just fine to be able to increase to a 10.

Well i didn't change my slipper setting from when i moved from the Fusion SE 1800 to this and i managed to engage the slipper with the mini16. Not sure that tells you much....it did everything i wanted it to do and happy i can reduce some serious weight and have a 2n1 system for only $70. Not changing all my rigs from the SE/540 Pros to the Mini16, but just the ones i want better side hilling and ones that are a little too heavy. Plus it's fun just seeing what this little motor can do.
I'm equally impressed with it in some of my bashers, like the Arrma Grom, Tamiya Blackfoot, Tamiya TD2 buggy.....these for sure don't need heavy 540 sized motors for what i'm doing with them. The real test will be on this rig below with tracks in the mud

They need to start including the adapter plate with these

I got mine running as well. I was able to modify the adapter I had on hand and get it centered up and the pinion is running true now. I just got a long 10t pinion i had ordered today. Not so concerned about the gearing, just didn't care for the short pinion sitting out towards the end of the motor shaft so I found the long pinion.

I've only run it in the garage so far. The on the fly drag brake adjustment works well. I need to adjust a couple esc settings to my preference, then I just need time to get it on the trail.
