+1.... not that I know everything, but, never heard this one...... :shock:

Zenor diodes only let current go one way within a specified voltage. Not quite sure what this mod does.

From what I understand, you install the Zener Diode to lowers the BEC''s output voltage going to the rx and esc's allowing for cooler operating tempratures (off the esc's) while still allowing the servo to get full voltage to from the BEC.

Note: in the diagram, I would think the ESC to RX red wire should be removed??!!

I updated the first post, it is recommend to install a piece of foam in between the two boards for protection.

Charlie...what John was saying would happen with things hooked up as shown in the diagram is that the ESC's bec would not provide power to the Rx unless it sees a "need", therefore leaving the red wire hooked up wouldn't be a problem. At least that's what I remember from reading through his thread.

I will contact JRH for an answer....but, the internal BEC is not "smart", thus will supply a voltage regardless from my understanding.

Yes, you can wire them like any other system and just remove the red wire and power the RX from the BEC. I didn't include that in the diagrams as I felt it was understood as a common method already.
 
Nothing will happen. Just alittle water barrier to keep things safe if you find some water on the course "thumbsup"

Quick question. When applying the conformal coating, the instructions state to clean the board. Is that refering to any excess flux, etc. What is the best way to clean the boards? I have some denatured alchol lying around. Will that work??
 
I've never "cleaned" them. I just apply. I would think if they are new and cleanly soldered cleaning is not needed. However, if I were to, I'd probably spray electrical contact cleaner on a q tip.

They are clean, I did use flux to tin the wires and wasn't sure if the coating wouldn't stick to any residue. Also, I picked up silicone conformal coating. Is that the right type? Thanks. "thumbsup"

I'm not familiar with the silicone based. I only have experience with the liquid form.
 
Yeah, it's liquid based. It's claimed to be a little more flexible and have dampening characteristics. Thanks
