HB Rover Review

mine finally got to me 18 days after I ordered them. ( next time, just pay for UPS) I mounted them up on Mayhem Double Fatties and some used ProLine mem foams. The stock foams were too short, the tire would compress about 3/4" before you could feel the foam.

It was cold on Sunday for our last comp of the year. It got around maybe 45*. The sun never came out long enough to warm up the rocks. I was running 5th, so I could see where everyone was going to have problems.

These tires stuck to the cold rocks as if they had suction cups on the treads! The extra height was good in most places. It was an issue at one gate where the gound went past the under cut section of a rock. The tires rolled under the rock and got stuck, they couldn't compress enough to squeeze through the gate.

I still need a taller, firmer foam but these tires were great overall. I over heard a few guys with my club saying they were gonna order some over the winter. I expect to see a bunch of these tires next year.

My guess is that it leaves an air gap between the tire and foam, allowing the tire to get a nice, large contact patch.

I just got mine in and mounted and plan to run them for the first time on Tuesday. I will be running them with stock foams to start with. It will be cold on Tuesday, about 35*, so I guess I will see if/how they hook up in the cold.

I'm anxious to hear how they worked for you at Taylors Falls.

Been playing with them some more lately... I ended up adding a little more weight to the front wheels on my rig. That seemed to help it a good bit. I think the All-weathers are spot on for the front. i think they may be a hair soft for the rears though. I am actually trying to take some traction out of the back because when they hook up it traction rolls front over rear pretty bad. I find the most problematic area for my truck is on a solid piece of rock with a right angle climb in it. When the rear hits the crack the front goes over every time. keep in mind I don't have my dig in it as I am waiting in some parts that were not right in it. If the dig was in it this issue probably wouldn't be as problematic. "thumbsup"

Overall I am still satisfied with these tires. I have ran them multiple times and have nothing but good things to say about them.

I've noticed a couple of things. My batteries die faster  and if I don't stuff the tire all the way with foam, the ride height is the same as my panthers. These tires make my truck do some strange things because they are so squihy... so I am going to have to tune foam more. I don't mind the air gap (it seems to increase traction) but I want a foam that doesn't compress as loosely and wrap up so easily. Double memory foams in the rear are approaching acceptable, but not quite. The front stock foams are just too soft.

Traction seems to be good, but it does no good when the tires wrap up and roll you backwards. ;-)

I've only seen my rear wad up once, but I think my comp truck is lighter than most. It was on the rear in a bind when it did. The front's will wrinkle the sidewall a little on a hard pull but don't fold over either. My complaint with the rear foam is that they are too bouncy feeling for my liking. Can't wait to see what everyone else does for foams with them... "thumbsup"

My second foam attempt feels much better than my first. I kept the memory foams doubled up in each rear, but wrapped them with 1/4" of standard foam. Fronts are stock foams wrapped in 1/4 of standard foam.

This took the "empty wrinkles" out of the tires, and gave them a slightly firmer feel, but kept a nice flat contact patch. Testing them tomorrow."thumbsup"

I took 2nd place @ our comp Sat on these tires..heres my review

As far as the tires go..IMHO They have as much forward bite as a panther and will side hill maybe a little better..So I have to say they are just as good as panthers,,but have the advantage of being a little taller.....Thats my scoop on the HB's ...But what do I know I'm just a dumb ole hillbilly

stacey, what foam setup are you running. i order nwtac #5's but from what ive been reading i should have order'd 3 pairs and cut 2 of them in 1/2to use w/ the other 4 foams...

I tried running these tires at our comp yesterday and struggled. I ended up putting my panthers back on and had much more traction. I have tried various foam setups and what I ran yesterday felt the best to me out of all the different foam setups I have tried. But what I did notice is these tires don't like cold weather. It was about 35 degrees out, and after the comp and after it had warmed up some, and the rocks warmed up I put the rovers back on and they worked very well. I was able to make a few lines that my panthers couldn't. I think these tires in warm climate will work very well.

direction

you are running you front tires in two different directions. It looks like the middle filled in shape that looks like the thread on mashers should face foward. Where you have one forward and one backwords

there is no " right way" to run these from what i can tell, some leading/grabbing lugs face one way and others face the other. I just made sure i mounted mine in the same consistent fashion and have been liking them since. Now if i could find some foams for these...TCS is out of the All Weathers last time i checked.

I thought I wanted taller foams but after running them I have grown fond of the stock foams un-modified.

Another thing I have noticed with these tires is they do need to be scrubbed in... They do get better"thumbsup"
