Have tech questions? Will answer.

I've emailed Castle Thursday last week and still waiting for a reply.

Thanks JRH and the rest who took time to try and help solve this issue.
I'm also in agreement on calling them. Their phone super is outstanding. I've called them a few times, and, by the end of the call, the problem is resolved. Using my most recent call as an example, not only did the person I spoke with help resolve the two (one very minor, one moderate) problems I was having, but he also helped me dial in my Tx to the point that I was able to set the deadband to the lowest (ie. fastest) setting. The call ended up being approx 45min...now, THAT'S customer service/support.

What in the crawlmaster sport line is close to a 35t Axial? Having a hard time deciding on a motor. I do 50/50 rock crawling and trails with an scx10ii. A little more torque would be great but don't want to sacrifice a terrible amount of power.

Holmes spent time answering that, go look at his motors webpage, bottom and it’s all there

Ive got a Futaba 4PM and Axial simple LED controller. Can anyone walk me through the steps necessary to be able to switch ny lights on and off? The owners manual doesn't mention this and I'm at my wits end. LED controller is currently plugged into the channel 3 port. Thanks.

You would need a receiver switch to be able to do that

Soze put up a video on this a while back

I'd just add that using a separate battery is not needed depending on the voltage the switch runs off of. Typically it can be powered off the receiver, look for a switch that uses servo plug ends so you dont need to swap the plugs and for one that can run off 6v.

Correct, not all LED controllers actually have a receiver on off switch built into them. Here is where I get mine in bulk: http://www.hansenhobbies.com/products/onboardacc/ers/

First, if you want to remotely control/activate/deactivate accessories using a Futaba Rx, you're going to need to get some Futaba CPS-1 units. I'm currently using two in my Axial Capra...one to control the headlights, the other to control the lightbar (yes, that means your need separate CPS-1 units to control each separate accessory on the same vehicle). These are how Futaba Txs remotely control accessories (lighting, winches, etc).

The physical connection part is easy: You first plug the CPS-1 into whatever channel you're using, then you plug the lights (or whatever the accessory is) into the CPS-1. While I don't have a 4PM, I do have the 7PX, so programming settings should be extremely similar.

Start by going into 'Menu', then 'CPS mixing'. In the CPS mixing sub-menu, you should find the 'CPS mixing' choices (CPS mixing 1, CPS mixing 2, & CPS mixing 3). Going into #1, first turn mixing "On", then make sure the "Operation mode" is set for 'ON/OFF' (it's only other mode is 'Flash'). Finally (at least in the CPS mixing menu), set the "Control" to 'Mixing switch' (there should be 7 possible choices, with 'Mixing switch' being at/near the top of the list).

Now, back out of the 'CPS mixing' menu, to the main 'Menu', and go into 'Linkage menu' (which should have 2 pages). On the second page, go into either 'Trim/Dial select', or 'Switch select' (depending on whether your planning to control the CPS-1 using a DT switch, ok a PS switch (I'd recommend a PS switch, thus 'Switch select'). Within the 'Switch select' sub-menu, set whichever switch you want to control the lighting with to "CPS mixing 1". In my Capra, I've got PS3 controlling the headlights (via 'mixing 1'), and PS2 controlling the lightbar (via 'mixing 2'). At this point, you're almost done...but not quite.

You'll notice two option sub-options, labeled "Dir." and "Type". Depending on which PS switch you assign the CPS-1 to, "Dir." will probably be 'Nor.', but it might need to be 'Rev.' This swaps the on/off positions, in regards to which ('on' or 'off') is the default when turning the Tx on. Additionally...again, depending on which PS switch you're using...the "Type" will need to be either 'Nor.' or 'Alt.'. This is because some switches default to a standard "on/off" (press & release to town on, press & release to turn off), while others default to "off", and are only "on" when the switch is pressed & held. For example, on the 7PX, I've set PS2 to 'Alt.', because it is the second type ('Alt.' changes it to a "standard" on/off switch), and PS3 to 'Nor.', because its default is already a "standard" on/off.

Hopefully, these directions aren't confusing...and, hopefully, the 4PM menus are the same as the 7PX menus. Even if the two menus aren't completely identical, hopefully they're similar enough for you to get the programming properly set. But, before your can do any of that, you'll need to get at least one CPS-1. Initially, my plan for the Capra was to control both lights with a single CPS-1 (you can daisychain up to 6 lights on a CPS-1). When I ordered mine, knowing I'd eventually need more, I ordered 3. However, as I mentioned earlier, I decided to control each light individually, so now I only have one CPS-1 remaining, and I'll need to order more (for current & future projects).

This is enough for me to never buy a Futaba Radio...

Add no momentary switches to that list, though maybe their newest radio added that (one would hope). I'm not really happy with my 7PX, I mean for the price it should do anything and everything you'd need or want but it is a bit limiting with it lack of simple button press options.

I'll just add if you do this mod with a non Futaba switch theres typically very little to setup, choose which button and set it to toggle (instead of momentary) and that should be it.

A buddy runs a 4PX (I think) and uses an Axial simpli led light switch as I do. Setup is no where near that complicated. Works on his. Everything is new here so it makes no sense.
i've ordered a new switch on the off chance that mine is bad. I really appreciate all the input here.

Hey John, I went to install my new 12T Crawlmaster in my TRX4 Sport, and I had to take the motor off of the motor plate, and this happened to the screw holes (at 12 and 6 o'clock). The screws won't go back in. Should I use a drill bit to drill it out?

I could use the other holes, but then one of the wires will be on the bottom (at 6 o'clock). I fear that the wire connection could get hit by a rock.

What should I do? Thanks.
