FusionPro Mini16 in 1/10

Someone is my group is using a FusionPro Mini16 in a 1/10 crawler that's little over 6lbs and it seemed to perform just as good as it's full size counter part.

Thinking this might be a good option for someone wanting to reduce weight as i think it's 178grams lighter. I might want to try this setup in one of my MST CFX rigs as the motor sits up a little high in this rig and reducing that much weight up high would really help it out I think.

Anyone else have experience with running this? Wonder what the weight limit would be before overheating...
He said you need the hobbywing adapter plate and 2.3mm pinion or a brass sleeve to increase the motor shaft dia to use standard 3.17mm pinions.

A buddy of mine is running one in his c2 comp rig. I saw him run it for an hour straight on 70ish degree day and it was warm but not hot. Not sure how much overdrive he has but the truck is about 6lbs.
 
Interesting. HW website says good for up to 1.8kg (3.96lbs) but I'd guess they are going to be a little conservative.

I probably should have tried this in my tws Datsun but I went with a Holmes 380 revolver 2000kv and mamba micro x2 esc. No adapter necessary for the motor. It has the 25.4mm mounting pattern plus 2 smaller bcd and uses an 1/8" shaft.

If I need a bit faster motor to deal with the low fdr on the tws I'd take a chance on this but won't know until I actually get it running outside. And I will likely be over the 4lbs when I get it done.

Cheap enough that I'd take a chance and if you smoke the motor you can try something else or put the old stuff back in.

It seems like it could be a good alternative to the regular FusionPro if your rig is under maybe 7lbs. Just found Latrax pinions that are 2.3mm and all the way down to 9t!!
Going to give it a shot and just monitor the temps...but i think it will be just fine. Might end up using these in all my lightweight performance rigs....plus i may be able to use a smaller/lighter battery and get the same run time.

The regular fusion pros are crazy underrated and powerful and probably be fine in rigs over 15lbs
 
That's a really interesting option. It is lighter and cheaper than the Rhino s12 2340kV motor and Rhino 40A AM32 ESC combo I am currently running. The biggest downside I see is that it only supports 3S and I run 4S with my Rhino setup. The 3000kV motor mostly offsets that from a wheel speed perspective, but it limits servo speed/power with a direct power servos like I run on both my 1/10s.

I just watched the video "Crawler Canyon" has out on Youtube running some lines in his SCX10 Pro with the Fusion mini16 and it looks like it is plenty capable in a 1/10 scale and both of my rigs are about 5Lbs. If it were 4S compatible, it would be a no brainer. For $60 right now I might pick one up anyway to try out.
 
I had one of these in my amain cart yesterday. Main hold up was adapting a standard pinion to the 2.3mm shaft. Looks like some brass tube can be used to make up the difference but i would prefer an actual adapter sleeve like you can find for 1/8"-5mm pinions. Also, amain didn't have the adapter plate so I talked myself out of it for the moment.

I'll pick one up for my zoku phoenix eventually. It should work great in that rig.

This motor i think comes with 2 sleeves or you can order them separately. Takes about 2 weeks to get from this place

Why not just buy a 2.3mm pinion? Looks like there are plenty available and it leave more meat on the pinion gear if you want to run a 9T to help with the torque of a small motor.

Running a 32 pitch spur with the slipper on the vfd in the car this will go into and there are no 32 pitch 2.3mm pinions that I've found. I would need to convert to the slipper eliminator and a new spur so the adapter is just easier.
 
I just ordered one. Thinking im going to try to build a lighter comp rig. A Dlux OD4 transmission and this will save ~4oz of sprung weight vs my current setup and will allow me to move weight more inboard and lower. Plus id be switching back to bec powered servos so reliability may increase.

I don't recall at the moment if they were steel or aluminum. I also ended up ordering these below and i know they are steel for sure and of decent quality.
