Looks great Fricker!"thumbsup" I've always been a big fan of silver!

I hear ya on the door handles! Luckily for me I've had practice installing these on my Origin and PRO. Both of those were a PITA!! I didn't have too much problems with these on the Phoenix.

Re: Fricker08’s Vs4-10 Phoenix

It looks good in the pics, but I didn’t focus on the spots that are messed up. It’s fine it just drives me nuts because I know better.
Yea Bmow they were tough on my pro as well but I got it. I probably should have threaded the screws in first looking back at it now

You aren’t supposed to focus the photos on the mistakes!:ror:

Isn’t there always at least one of those In a build eh? I imagine Once the rocks give it some scars you won’t notice anymore. That said I will take a lesson and pre thread my door handles as they will be going on later today.

The rig looks great, overall. Silver does tend to look sharp. The black accents are perfect for it.

Re: Fricker08’s Vs4-10 Phoenix

I found a guy on F**ebook selling some spare tire mounts for pretty cheap so I grabbed me one. Ended up having some bits leftover from the stock 6x6 Umg body to make everything fit nice. Now if the weather would chill out so I can go run this thing

That’s weird… my new Phoenix looks just like yours

Since Fricker08 changes rigs like most people change underwear, I guess I’ll take over the thread.

I built one of these on the first release, but ended up parting it out, mostly because I didn’t have enough time, or good enough weather to paint the body.

Luckily Fricker made me a good deal on this, minus trans and driveshafts. I’ve already got a pro vfd on the way, and some stock Phoenix shafts in the parts bin ready to go.

Likely won’t have too much for updates for a month or two but we’ll see where it goes.

Guilty! Glad it’s in good hands of someone who will enjoy it. Looking forward to it!

Thanks Brian

The roost is a favorite wheel of mine also. Unfortunately these are just Chinese copies, it’s hard to find vp roosts since they’ve been discontinued. I managed to score a black set a while back and put them on my 10.2/f9 Capra. One day I’d love to get a set in clear and grey.

Well from a distance they look like the real deal! I'm still not sure why VP discontinued these. They are a great looking wheel. I was able to get a set of grey a few years ago for my VS4-10 Origin before they quit making them.

I guess I'll have to buy me a set of those knock-offs in the future if I can't find a set of VP's.

The giveaway is no method logo on the knock offs, besides that and metric hardware it’s pretty difficult to tell

Minor update, pro vfd showed up in the mail, and I had some rare (lately) free time to spend in the workshop.

All of the electronics are in, but I forgot to get any pictures. Pretty happy with how it all worked out, I will grab more pictures this weekend.

I’m running a mamba x, 2850kv slate, and a protek 370tbl.

Still need to hook up castle link and load my preferred throttle curves, set end points and adjust my bec to 7.4v.

Also, I spaced about the pro trans coming with a 56t spur gear, so for now I’m running 15/56, but I may go to a 52t spur.

I’m also planning to swap in some standard ratio portal gears in the rear, so while I’m running the 56t I will be at

73.1:1 rear
57.7:1 front
23.5% total o/d

After installing a 52t spur, and still using the 15t pinion, I should get

67.8:1 rear
53.5:1 front
Still 23.5% total o/d

I also plan to run this on 4s, so if the wheel speed is good enough with the 56t spur, then I may just leave it.

A phoenix with only one servo? weird....

For sure, if this ends up being a long term rig I will add the vfd dig just like my pro.

The adjustable o/d seems like a cool feature, but seems more geared for a do it all rig.

Personally, I’m not a fan of how cluttered everything got with both servos, battery tray, and narrower sliders, compared to my pro.

So electronics are in, wiring is routed, and I’m happy considering I didn’t want to shorten motor wiring for right now. I recently started using Alex tech 1/4” wire loom, and it keeps everything looking proper.

I used a simple tray I designed and printed to mount the receiver next to the servo, also uploaded it to my thingiverse.

My windows based tablet is inop, so castle link programming is on hold for the time being.

Also working on a better solution for battery mounting on the rh slider.

Printed a basic battery tray for the RH slider, fits my small 3 and 4s packs perfectly and includes a slot for the battery strap underneath.

Also uploaded it to thingiverse:

As of now, the only thing left is to install the standard rear portal gears and then get this thing out for its maiden voyage.
