First Sneak Peek: SSD Trail King - Pro Scale Chassis Builders Kit!

What's to keep a guy from cutting open the hood on a lexan body?

I have a good idea of what body I will use.
It's uh, sort of a spare I been hanging onto. For the... Right moment. ;)

Matt form SBG had a hylux body he had scaled out and cut the hood, used some hinges form I think shapeways or knight customs. so it's possible, I'm thinkin bout trying it on the ramcharger for the same reason!!!

Amain hobbies site shows an expected arrival date of July 3rd. I assume it would be the same for the other suppliers. With that being a holiday weekend I don't expect anyone to ship until at least the 8th, if they actually get them when expected. My recent experience with shipping from RPP indicates it'll take a week to get to me so I don't expect to see mine until mid July at the earliest.

Ok SSD, we know about approximate delivery, cool. But are there any running video of the chassis? Any performance reviews? anything?? The vanquish, element guys and new owners have been posting theirs! So how bout it!! Got anything for us??

Are you guys going to offer the plastic transmission as a stand alone? I am so close to pulling the trigger on the aluminum one but would like to save money.

So what’s really going on with this one? No running vids, not even a video of the chassis. Did they make one and gauge interest before going into production only to see VP come out with its own kit before them?

This whole chassis release has been weird from the start. I feel like VP has them a little spooked.

I don’t think they anticipated getting dunked on by VP & Associated. Under the circumstance of the usual new product dry spell, the way SSD is marketing this kit is adequate.

From things SSD has said in this thread:

#1 - He leaves the media and promotion up to the dealers and until they receive their kits, there probably won't be any videos.
#2 - This kit has been in the pipeline for years, it is just unfortunate timing that 2 other high profile kits are being released around the same time.

I understand that but still!! Seems like they, SSD, would be a little more proactive, with all the hype they started with!! Patience isn't one of my strong suits!!

SSD might not put on bodies or other things like the other brands. But they have done a great job since day 1 even without promotion videos. Actual dealer reviews and real world experience video. Imo I think they are a great brand/company. Never been let down with any parts. Quality is very high

I have no doubts about the quality of their products!! I'm just curious about the performance and handling of the new chassis!

yeah i get it. its like... okay bear with me im about to get a little nerdy but hopefully it translates...

its like when Marvel is not at comic con hall H for a presentation. like DC and whomever else is bringing it, and meanwhile at the marvel studios its like crickets?

huge expectation/anticipation, but no word to keep the hype going.
i really hope SSD is not intimidated by "the other guys". they do make incredible products, and i WOULD like to get one of these rigs its just not in my price range *at this moment*.

but yeah some sort of media exposure showing this thing running would be nice.

I think it’s more like dc teasing a movie and then marvel releases movie of the year before there’s is even done.

The thing that bothered me the most about it was the constant teases and also ssd going into the axial tease and associated tease threads hyping their soon to be released kit only for every other kit to be released before we actually see a finished product from them.

I’m guessing pre-orders weren’t what they were expecting or pre-orders were cancelled after the release of the other kits and they are trying to figure that out.

I've always thought it was odd that they have no social media. I guess its less headaches to deal with since there are so many lazy idiots who wont research before posting and people who have nothing better to do than bash products/manufacturers.

Having a few sponsored people to get early releases for videos, reviews, and such for big releases like this would probably be good for them though.
