Hey man, how are the axles and gears holding up from wear?

Well I've been puttin my truck through some good abuse lately and noticed a odd noise in the front case. Tore it open and found out that I broke the small 3rd gear shaft again. It snapped in the same spot as the first one. Other than that everything was still brand new looking. So besides this issue the gears are proving to be solid.

Nothin new on the rig other than the gear and a new rear skid plate. Still have to make the rest of the new shock/link mount adapters, I hope to do that this week. But I have got in a lot of run time.

Went on a camping trip to 4 wheel and ride dirtbikes and had a creek next to the campsite so we went for a crawl one morning.

Went up to a big gravel pit today on capital peak with the deadbolt for the first time. I think I found my new favorite spot. Takes some skill and a lot of route planning to make the runs we were going up. This is where I broke the small gear in the front trans. Had my tire wedged under a rock and gave it too much throttle.

We played here long enough for the deadbolt to kill a 5000 and 2 3600 nimh venom batteries while I only used 2 3000 nimh one a stock exceed the other a gens. Ive noticed I get awesome runtime for some reason. We will definitely have to come back with the whole crew and take some video.

I've ran thru a few packs since my last post. The new trans gear seems to be holding up ok so far. Today I decided to attempt to fab a new rear upper link mount. Had this idea in my head for awhile so I just went with it.

Made from the same thickness alum plate as the chassis skid plate. It attaches using the existing servo plate posts. Did some quick testing in the driveway and it seems tough but the bend may be a weak point. Only time and abuse will let me know for sure. If it does hold up I'll fab one for the front.

There is actually quite a bit left from the original rig. Just modified some things a little bit. Both axles and trans housings are stock, still have the stock steering links, front upper links, most of the tvp chassis, stock shocks, and still running the stock esc.

All you need to do is change out the knuckles and stub shafts for ax10 knuckles and stubs and get some 12mm hexes and your good to go. You can just change the stubs but the stock knuckles may rub your tires where the steering arm attaches. I put a groove in some mt baja claws sidewalls by not swapping knuckles.

Thanks. I don't want to hijack your thread, but I wanted to show you what I came up with last night. Wheelbase sits around 13 inches now. I have some wire management to do and wheels and tires to order next.

Your truck looks good so far. Have you had a chance to run it with the current set up? I never tried the stock wheels on mine after I reduced the wheelbase. Curious to know how well they would do.

The tires are actually decent with some better foams in them. The stock ones are junk, you're better off running none at all. I want I more scale looking tire. I think the XL Super Swampers from Proline will look killer.

Airtronics MT4 RX and RX461 4 Channel RX
And an SPC 4300mah 3s Lipo

Mine handles the shortened wheelbase great. Still have a single stock esc and servo, ccbec set at 6v, some axial 55t's and 7.2 nimh batts. I sometimes get occasional lag in the rear but I also use that as an advantage. It's all in the throttle control for my setup. With too much wheelspeed I usually just start digging holes. So I mostly just go slow and let my tires do their work.

Looks like enough flex to me. I may have try the stock wheels again sometime. How did you inboard the bottom links? Can u post a pic of your skid?

I made a custom skid out of Lexan, and used some aluminum spacers I had laying around. It's also a mount for my sliders.

It's a closed nipple for aluminum conduit that I cut just a bit more than in half so it snaps on to the motor. No glue or anything holds it on. I THINK it's 1 1/4 inch.

I painted the whole thing black, then polished off the ridges. It kind of looks like the heat sinks on some Castle motors. Keeps the rock rash off of my motors.
