North to Alaska - go north, the rush is on....
Okay, the time has come for me to get a crawler for my 6 year old daughter.

I have an RGT Rock Cruiser ($180 shipped) on order, but it has not sipped yet and I have already had an order canceled because they refused to ship to Alaska.

I am going to give it another couple days, but then I need to pull the trigger on something different.

I am looking for an RTR Crawler that can be fairly easily upgraded as she grows.

So far I have looked at the Redcat Gen7 Sport ($230 shipped) and Pro ($280 shipped), not much else is popping out at me in the $200 to $280.

Let me know if there is something else out there in that price range.
Thank you

I'd do a Redcat Gen8 Scout on sale $280 from Asiatees. Best aftermarket support in that price range for RTR in my opinion.

Asiatees wants $120 to $160 to ship it to me. Shipping to Alaska is a killer for most places, which is funny. We get trucks, boats and planes just as everyone else does and yes I get it, it takes more fuel to get here, but not that much more.

This is to be a Christmas present, so with Amazon no shipping it within the last week, it has me on edge…

I'm in California and they want the same.

I am getting a TRX4 Sprot for the Gdaughter. They perform well and a more durable than other crawlers and lots of available upgrades.

These would be my suggestions in order, all slightly over the $280 price, but all easily upgradable where needed:

Trx4 sport $369 at amain (that’s more than I remember them being)

Element gatekeeper $299 rtr at amain

Axial wraith 1.9 rtr $329 at amain or Amazon

Man that’s all I can think of right now, I don’t have any experience with redcat, gmade, etc.

How’s the used market up there? I scored a gatekeeper minus wheels, tires, and electronics for $150 recently, that’s going to my 3 year old for Christmas.

I guess at least I am not the only one...:)

This reminds me, he can do the Remo Hobby Honcho replica. Now idk if Axial stuff will swap onto it but for $190 it seems like a nice start for a toddler.
That is tempting, but I want something for myself, or the wife, if she ends up not really being into it :lmao:

I realy like the looks of the TRX4, but it is a little out of my price range, although I do believe it is one of those rigs you get what you pay for.

I was going to suggest an Axial Honcho.

The Gatekeeper looks pretty promising and is closer to my $280 limit I will consider it.

I was mainly looking at Redcat for price point and I have a Gen8, so I am familiar with the durability.

At this point, it looks like I am between the Gen7 Pro and the Gatekeeper. The Gatekeeper is definitely different than any of the other rigs we own.

Thank you all for your input, it is what makes this site a wealth of knowledge "thumbsup"

the gen 7 isent the same quality as the gen8
the gen7 is leftover clone parts made to the original manufacturers specs the gen8 is a new design by redcat and made to redcats specs
not saying the gen7 isent a good rig as long as you dont over power it its fine but you can upgrade to axial stuff but even the axial parts the gen7 was model after arent that much stronger the 3 gear trans being the exception so it ends up being a scx102 and at that point the builders kit might be a better place to start

i built a barbi mini cooper in to a crawler with 10-2 axles if she like barbi it might be alittle more apealing to her to build something like that

I just checked and it looks like you can use code sum2021 at amain and it drops the gatekeeper to $279…

Thanks for that code. With the shipping to Alaska, that puts it at $327. It is $47 to ship it up here.

Still debating
Pull the trigger man! Can't pass it up in my opinion and I like the idea of not sticking to a brand. I'm slowly gonna do that myself.

No problem!

I’m definitely spoiled by cheap or free shipping, not to mention no sales tax…

Okay, so no hurt feelers by those that gave ideas, or recommendations.

I found out that the RGT will not ship to me and the order was canceled.
I pulled the trigger on the Redcat Gen7 Pro in black. The price was $280 shipped to AK.

One thing I try to instill is that they don’t get the good stuff right out of the gate and the Gen7 will give plenty of opportunity to learn driving a lesser rig and get the feel, learn what works and doesn’t, then figure out how to make it better.

I know for a few more dollars, there are more capable rigs, but I’m good with starting closer to the bottom and working our way up to the top(ish).

Now let’s see where this takes us…

Thanks again!!!

EDIT - If this one doesn’t ship, I’m dropping the dough on the Gatekeeper.

Glad you got something on the way, I’m sure the kid will love it.

Thanks for the understanding, some folks tend to get over sensitive if you do not heed their advise and such.

My son really wants an open wheeled crawler/bouncer rig and the Gatekeeper might be a good option there. I watched a few videos and it looks like a pretty capable rig.
