I used 1/4" flat stock... chain drill the outline and then a mini belt sander to clean up...

Made some changes to the wheel weights. They weigh in at 6.7oz fully loaded, including the hardware. Now the slugs are just held in with button head screws, making for a much narrower profile and cleaner design.

Are you going to add a screw hole from the top so that you can lock them onto the knuckle or just press fit it...
They look great and like the wight adjustabiloty - although I don;t think I'd have the wheel clearance for this design...
I wonder what the range would be if you made the basic design in Brass and then could add the steel weights.

Nice build so far, I really like the weight system you came up with. I have a set of 65:1 SB's on their way to me too, I am gonna need to come up with something similar. Seeing this makes me even more anxious, I have been sidetracked with other projects and finaly decided to just build myself a super like I originaly intended to. I was waiting for something like the 65:1's to come along. I will be keeping an eye on this build for sure.

Yep, the set screws for these are in the mail right now. Should have them tomorrow.
Do the HPI blasts come right up against the outer face of the knuckle?
Although brass would be nice, I don't think I would want to pay for the material or for the shipping. A sheet of 12" x 12" x 1/4" is about $100.00, not including the shipping.

The Super Bullies have been the best thing for the class since Panther Plowboys were discovered. I have been working on this chassis/Super for about 3 months straight and it has been the most fun (and challenging) project I have had yet. Can't wait to see what you come up with.

I have some plowboys on blasts coming too, so our builds are already kinda similar. Would you maybe want to work out a trade for a set of you weight-plates for a set of brass weights? What are the dimensions on them?

Thanks for the offer, but I really don't have any use for the brass.
Here are some measurements:
Overall Height - 2.25"
Overall Width (also the OD) -3.25"
1/4" thick w/out weights, about 7/8" overall with weights (includes button heads)
Depending on the screws used and their lengths, the weights can be placed anywhere in their holes. I chose to bias them toward the center of the axles so that I can run a narrow track width.
Speaking of narrow track width, anyone want to lose about 0.4" off their width?

They are.
Bender used to sell some delrin hexes for the Clods, so I figure it should work for the bullies. We shall see how they hold up.
The stock bully hexes have a bit of slop in them. I wanted to eliminate the slop and go narrower at the same time. And the hexes do not fall out (losing the pins) when I take off the wheel, which was also something that has been driving me nuts.
If I had 17mm hex wheels I would probably just go with an 1/8 scale buggy hex, but the Thorns are 14mm.

Nice job on the hexes, i gotta make some for mine too the stockers are 14mm, i bought a pair of the 17's but they are sloppy on the shafts, i dont like how much they allow the wheels to slop. I agree with the issue of possibly having the pins fall out on the style where they are held w/ an o-ring.
I got my axles the other day, and i am impressed with the quality of them, I was expecting them do be a little chinsier.

Oh yeah, I've already driven it a couple times. Just cleaning it up a bit at this point.
The 55t motors are a little slow on 3 cells, so I am thinking of just running 2 of my 3 cell packs in series :twisted:. Maybe I should order some spare gears.
