Cpe Claw Build, #2 Prototype

Can you give us the total weight of the rig as you have it set up now? Plus did you add weights to the rear tires?
 
i like the idea but it seems like the chassis its self could be reduced a little in size to lower the COG... everything can be mounted on the axles so theres really no need for any mounting surfaces on the chassis...
 
I would think A redesign of the center chassis for more clearance and less weight would be nice, but not necessary. Along with using two of those torsen springs attached to the axles. One for the right and left. With a lower spring capacity they could act as leaf springs and better contol wheel hop and individual suspension cycling. This can be done with either an x pattern or a typical = parallel pattern for the spings mounted to the chassis.
All this would add cost to the chassis and maybe improve it. But for the price right now you cannot go wrong. I am getting one shipped right now to tweak and hammer on.
 
hey guys i have to get back to you on the weight question, i don't have a scale, will get it weighed sometime this week, as for the suspension IMO i think it works really awesome out the box + weight on your tires, i have gone with 31/2 oz in front and 2oz in the back, and it works great, the cog works great to get over tall obstacles and clear tall edges, i think it is very good on horizontal inclines and climbs really well vertical, i would like to see any of your ideas to improve this design applied to THE CLAW:twisted: , i'am very interested and open to any suggestions:) ,
 
so i went to test my CLAW with my new holmes hobbies outrunners and mambas and i was starting to enjoy myself and loving my new setup when it happened, i was supposed to drop from the big rock on to the small boulder and i missed :x :x , instead i dropped the CLAW straight down 12 feet into rocks:shock: , so i went to check the damage and i bent an axle and broke an axle tube, but the chassis was ok:shock: , i have rolled this pup a couple times 20-25 ft, but never had it drop straight down, you can't really appreciate the depht from the pics but it's there.

Ouch. Can't help you with the bent axle, but these would have helped greatly to prevent the axle tube(s) from breaking:

Now you can get the CPE aluminum knuckles and axle tube that you needed to upgrade to any way. WAAIITT a minute they dont produce those products. ;-)

Dez;-) i know, Brett i know:x , the worst part is i have several sets of stiffeners i haven't used. Flex the wheels have some lead weight already, it was actually my fault, i had done the same route last saturday with my axion motors on, i just let it crawl on the motor drag,as i was to exit the rock i hit the gas and i came out all right, but yesterday i forgot to factor in the 100% drag from the outrunners and when i let of the throttle it stopped and threw of my line and the rest is history:roll: , o well live,crash, repair and learn:shock: , thank god i have extra parts for this one.:)

Thanks Brett for making that great innovative product. Just got mine 2 nights ago and cant stop crawling with it. Super light, easy assembly and respectable clearance and low COG. I must have heavy axles, as it articulates way more than 80 degrees, as you stated. Now this thread and Holmes hobbies, got me thinking of going brushless. "thumbsup"
