I didn't do any kind of build thread on my Mantis/XR10, it was my first crawler.
I wasn't a newbie to rc, just crawling. Got real tired of the go fast on road thing...anyway, my first crawler was an XR.

Of course it didn't stay stock long
Switched chassis twice before settling on the Mantis chassis....love this thing. Every mod you could do to the axles, VP everything, RC4wd gears...meh...you know, all the stuff. It runs a single FXR and a punk dig and until just recently a couple 55t intigy motors...yup, got almost three years out of those motors. It now has a couple HH Pro 540 16t and literally leaps when punched. Like I mentioned before, I love this rig.

But it weighs about 7lbs...it's a pig...a couple shots

Anyway

I want to build another MOA...and make it comp worthy. And did not want to take anything off of the Mantis....nothing. Saw Hulksta's Ridler chassis and thought that was just different enough to grab my attention...I like stuff outside the box if you haven't noticed already

I will share it all here....

So I start looking for some axles....I guess I preferred XR axles over bergs simply because I already have XR axles. Had I been able to find some Bergs I would have considered them....seems like both are hard to find.

I got lucky

These popped up after a couple days and I just couldn't pass them up

Good price, built like my Mantis axles except for the aluminum upper axle half. Spins nice and smooth....real happy with these "thumbsup""thumbsup". Thanks Mudeater67

Hey if your going to Anoodles GTG at folsom bring this guy along and come run comp gates with the BYB we'll be some where near 5% im guessing not far from dotons point.

If it's all together by then yes....would really like to try this end of the crawler world a little , if not maybe the mantis makes the trip.

I can't stand not building this already
Waiting for my chassis and links....so, started collecting stuff I already had

Going to go with a hitec 7955tg from another rig that's being eaten already for another scaler build....was an easy choice to steal it from that rig

They're beautiful paired with some Voodoos....Had them on the mantis for a couple of packs, they are amazing :shock: I bet I like them on the Hulksta as well

Thanks for looking btw...."thumbsup". I hope I get a lot of comments and suggestions

Beatiful rig congratulations xr10 axles with vp are the top!!! "thumbsup""thumbsup""thumbsup""thumbsup" (my axles are xr vp :lmao::lmao::lmao:) carbon rims and voodoo are perfect,The only "negative aspect" FOR ME are the big bore dampers I use scx and I prefer them to the lowest weight and for more softness,I wait your photos with the beautiful new riddle chassis

Ah but those big bore's never leak Castro....are they heavier ?
Funny, I probably have 4 SCX10s and not one stock shock on any of them or I'd see for myself

Keeping an eye on your rig too Mr. Castro

the current world champion uses big bores.....
the one previous scx10.....
the one before that big bore or kyosho.....
the one before that big bore.....

different strokes for different folks..... ultimately its not the shocks that make a world champ.

obviously not the shock to decide the world champion, but It is very important to have a good set,In anyhow I did not mean to offend anyone, I'm sure will be a great rig

No offense Castrol...

I think what Curcal meant was I can throw every high end part I can find at this build and it won't make a bit of difference if I can't wheel it. Probably be the case for me since I have no experience with an MOA style crawler...at least in the beginning. I learn quick

All opinions are welcome here "thumbsup".

So let me throw this out there.....

I got these handsome Devils from Mr. Holmes and was wondering what pinion to run? I need to order some

Haven't a clue where to start...any help greatly appreciated

Start at a 14 tooth. Thats what comes with rc4wd. If you need more torque go to 12 tooth.

Regardless of which shocks you choose, I think you will find the BB's you have to be way too long for the chassis. It is designed around SCX10 shocks and their length.

I think I read that somewhere when researching this...I do have a set of 90mm BBs, might be better suited. I don't know the length of an scx10 Shock

those 90mm big bores should work. they may be just a little long.... no problem just limit them internally.

and no 16t 5 slots will not be too much motor.

if you come to our comp on saturday ask donzx12 what pinion he is running on his 16ts with his xr axles.

I have 16t with 12 tooth pinons on my berg.

thanks Curcal...the 16's I have in the mantis are pretty lively although they have a 6* advance on them

I plan on visiting you guys this weekend while I'm up in that area...look forward to seeing you guys

Maybe after seeing some modern MOA's the 16t will make more sense. The benefit of these 5 slots are their smoothness in start up and overall control. Slow and super torque arent necessarily needed now in the 2.2
