choosing MY first crawler

about 3 years ago I got back in to the R/C world(out of it for 20+yrs)... I got the SCX10 and got a good servo, 35t brushed motor and a cheap radio... I could have not done it any better going this way...
Why You ask well out of the box it is a Curb crawler(meaning it will climb up curbs) for a beginner that is the place to start... the motor is in my opinion gets the job done.... the servo you done want a to cheap out on that cause you need the "power" to steer while being able to move the weight of the rig a bit...
cheap radio well that is so if you don't like the whole r/c thing you did not sink 200 or more on a good one... but if you do stay it becomes a great back up or a testing setup..
then like most said you can buy a ton of hop up parts to make it better... if you look around in your area they may have Comps or a GTG go to one ask questions 10 to 10 odds they will tell you just about any thing you will need to know and have a rig there to show you.... some might even let you run one of their rigs...
good luck!

Tower Hobbies has the rubicon RTR on sale right now for 299.00 and with their promo code for spending 280+ is $35 off, so your looking at $264 and they also have easy pay, which divides the total cost into 3 payments if you want.

Cheers,
Wade

Oh that sounds like a pretty dang good deal. How do you retrieve the promo code? Before payment? I'll check it out, the Rubicon is what I want to start with! THANKS!

Yep before payment. On their home page there is a list of their coupon codes for the month of December. I have been buying from tower hobbies for years and really like using them. I would support my local hobby shop more but they can't come close to the prices, especially with the coupons they offer. I think there are twelve different coupons this month, depending on how much you spend.

Cheers,
Wade

Oops forgot to add, they also are offering free ground shipping, I ordered a wraith kit last week, received it in four days and I got it for $250 not a bad deal.

Cheers,
Wade

Just placed the order, got the rubicon RTR and a motor for $282 total with free shipping, the $35 off and the spilt payments! Good deal! :) Thanks for the tip Wade!

I found this add too and snapped it up and was just gunna tell you about it but Wade had beat me to it :)

Well thanks for thinkin bout me anyhow. You're sweet. ;-) LOL

I'm whipping up some homemade scale accessories as we speak. Got a rope bundle and a log bundle made up. What next? hmmm... Got a couple cases of Coors light off Ebay on the way to!

oh wow, New Zealand! You must have some incredible places to go wheelin huh? Gorgeous land there. I've got to get thinking about where I can go that'd be awesome crawler terrain.

Yeah, I love it. There are HUGE trails and lots of little (secret) spots of mine.
I love our braided rivers in Canterbury. They make for great offroading, 1:10 AND 1:1.

Ditto on the jealousy. Couldn't do anything last night, big snowstorm. So I nipped the bottle a little, and had a conversation with the mouse in our garage, till my wife came and rescued the mouse lol.

Cheers,
Wade

Yeah it's all melting here now, ground is sloppy, icy and snow scattered. Freezing outside, running a space heater in the family room even. They're in the throws of Summer over in NZ right now. lol

Hey, fatsachs, you should come down to New Zealand sometime.
I'd be happy to show you the Kiwi ways. Anybody for that matter :)

EDiT: Just checked the forecast and just because it's summer, it doesn't mean we always have good weather :)
I just checked the 10 day forecast and 9/10 a rain :(
But it's not normally like this :)

Boy I wish I could do some traveling, just not in my budget though. Looks like a great choice though if I ever put some "holiday" money aside. We call it vacation here. lol

I got the RTR, shouldn't be anything to build right? I have customization in mind for the future but that's about it. Some knick knacks here and there, a custom rear view mirror ornament, a driver and hopefully a detailed interior is possible. Not sure how I go about cranking that out but I'm crafty so we'll see.
