Can Any Brushless Motor Fit In The LNC???

I have recently got money and am able to start back up on my LNC. Now it has the tekin FXR and a brushed integy 35t motor in it but that does not do what I want it to do. So I was wondering on getting a brushless motor but didn't know if any type or brand could go into it, because of the 2 bolts that hold the motor in place.......so will any type fit in there or not? Also I was gonna get a combo to save money and didn't know which was a preferred type. Lastly I have no idea ho to wire up a new ESC and motor but im willing to learn! Thanks!
 
Yes, any 540-sized BL motor will fit.

I prefer the Castle mamba esc and novak ballistic motors"thumbsup"

Important is that you get a sensored setup.
 
Any motor of 520, 540 or 550 size will fit, so there are more alternatives available.
I'm waiting for my HH Revolver S Stubby (520 size) to arrive any day now. Being >50g lighter than a 540 I expect it to influence COG in a positive way, while also being much better at low speed than my previous motor.

I put the Revolver S in my Class 2 with an LNC trans.

Geared with a 28T pinion, it was slow on 4S....

I put 1/4" spacers between the motor and motor plate to set it back. Then, meshed my 28T pinion to the INNER (much smaller LNC gear.

Wheelspeed is much better! Still creeps like a 17.5 sensored with 15T pinion!

Been looking around and im probably going to go with the Tekin RS and a Novak 13.5t with a 15t pinion and a 3s Lipo. Now does that sound like agood setup? Ive read lots of posts on this subject but this one seems to pop up....?
 
13.5 was kinda fast on 2S and on 3S it screamed. It was okay, but I didn't like it for going slow. I'd seriously try to push you towards the new sensored outrunners Holmes has.

Okay! So with, lets say with the S 540 the 15t pinion and a 3s..... that should give it plenty of speed while having good low speed crawling torque?
 
Sure. If you're uncertain wait out the decision a little while and wait for the reviews, or what have you, about the new motor. I see GiJoe and Olle P have them. One will thrash it the other will be all technical about it. I'll simply say the version I have (not production, mind you - 8 pole 2000kv) is pretty much the only brushless motor I'll put back in the Losi. You can also watch holycaveman videos in the Holmes motor thread. He's got an SCX10 but it's geared stupid tall and works.

What pinion you finally choose is up to you.

Alright, now if someone didn't want to spend that much money, what in your opinion would be the next best thing on a brushless crawler motor?

Cheap inrunner. Whatever these guys suggest. Probably Turnigy TracStar from Hobbyking or something like that.
 
I used to run a 17.5T TrackStar set to 15 degrees timing. It was (is) more than okay speed on 4S and should do on 3S as well.
Problem 1: Didn't run butter smooth at the very low end. :|
Problem 2: I've now got indication that the timing indicator is all wrong. :x The motor should be left at the default "30 degrees" to actually be on 0 degrees.
I was thus running it on -15 degrees timing! :evil:

Now with the new Stubby installed my first impression is that it's at least as powerful as the TrackStar. Mounting a 14T pinion I practised drifting with the LCC on the kitchen floor...
Slow crawling seemed fine too. Will just need some adjustments to the throttle curve to fit my style.
I will have to go up in pinion size to find out how much power there really is.

The only potentially real problem is the somewhat exposed sensor wire.

Hmmmmmm, alright that's some info. Now when you are talking about going up in pinion size and to see "how much power" that means more torque? Because the lower the number the quicker it is right?
 
Larger pinion => More motor torque used.
If the motor can provide more torque without significantly losing speed the car will run faster.
More torque at similar motor speed = More power.

At some point increasing the pinion size will just add load to the motor without changing the car speed. Then it's definitely time to go back down in pinion size.
Pinion size should also influence the very low speed characteristics, so that's also a factor.

Pictures aren't right. They have a good girth around the skinny part others don't.

Personally I really like the Losi pinions, brand name not considered. Otherwise, Robinson Absolutes are good too. Everything else seems too soft.
 
I started with one or two separate (small) pinions.
Ended up with buying a Robinson six-pack (RRP1050) that have all even numbers 16-26 teeth.
Filled up with the missing ones in the 12T-15T range.
