I think I got it.

Paint the whole body like I did this black one.
Metallic Black paint on the outside
Then tape off the stripe and hit with clear coat which leaves the paint nice and shiny.
Then remove the tape and hit with one more clear coat which dulls the first coat, but leaves the stripe shiny since it'd be the first coat.

The inside will be a rust color.

Now I just need to figure out how to paint the outside and tape it off cleanly w/o messing it up.
hmmm, stripe color on the inside? nah.

Spray the body. Let it dry overnight (important, don't want it being tacky or anything where the paint and tape stick together). Use the parma (or tamiya tape) to set down the lines of where you want to paint. Use blue painters tape to mask off the rest. Paint.

When I did the outside of the Clod, I didn't quite let it dry long enough so in some areas you can see where the blue painters tape pulled messed up the paint. Being that its a beater look, supposedly, not a huge issue.

My new driver, Watermelon Willy. :mrgreen:
I like the helmet but the black and orange turned out too shiny.
I'm going to shoot a clearcoat over the helmet.
Also painted the Exo radiator Tamiya Silver Leaf.

I took Melons out to play in the mud today... it was a lot of fun between rain showers.
I am really digging the... dig. It's a lot of fun and really useful to be able to pivot in place.

Scale lug nuts from RC4WD. I like them but one got stuck halfway in and I couldn't budge it with the little hex adapter so I grabbed it with small vice grips and twisted the head off... bummer. Now I need a single chud spacer. I'll drill it out but I won't be able to run the lug nut because they are not long enough to go through the spacer.

That sucks about the mini bolt, they look great on that wheel

I was trying to think of a paint scheme that would make my Willy a little different and it hit me, Melon Head! :ror:
I can't wait to get a clear coat on it.

Yeah, I should have backed it out while I could but it was going in pretty easy, just a little tight. I never would've thought it'd get stuck!

I have a set of CHUD spacers I was going to try and sell but it's missing the hardware so that might hurt its sellability. I hate to split up the set but...I'll give you the set for $10? You want it?

I have to leave the left arm of my Willy in order to make him fit!
Not sure what to do about that... I need to mod the interior but will most likely leave it as is.

We had a gtg yesterday and my dig kept malfunctioning!
I guess I'll pull it before the next comp season. :x
