Building a comp rig, or buying something like the h10?

My youngest enjoyed the comp portion that was at Proline's By the Fire enough to ask for his own comp(ish) crawler. I'm not against this but I'm trying to figure out if I should go with something like the H10, or building something.

Thoughts on this?

Agree with svt923. The H10 is scale, but not a comp rig. I built a VRD Carbon and it was a lot of fun to build and pretty good right out of the box. You can now also get the VRD straight axle builders kit.

The H10 is a cool looking truck no doubt, it is not a comp truck. I dont think it really even qualifies for SORRCA or most comp rules since there are no chassis rails. Or are you talking about the WE RC Rock competition with the tube buggies? That has a whole different rule set and plastic cage rigs seem to be pretty heavily penalized.

If you're talking about SORRCA or other scale comp sets, the VRD Carbon is a good base. You can build a better truck from parts but it will take a good bit of $$, research, and tuning to get there.

Just my .02… 10.2 - You could always go more but gives plenty of aftermarket and choices for the next foreseeable future. Simple, reliable and a solid foundation to work with. Decent axles, Centered pumpkins, bulletproof 3 gear trans. Upgrade when something breaks. Take the springs out and run full droop, or print some mini-t spring perches just for a little rebound when he wants to hit the trails on the way out. Add a body of your choice and let him paint it. He could even build it with supervised help laying it out for him.
