Brushless sensored cogging

Hello. I'm the proud owner of a new hobbywing xerun sct pro brushless, sensored esc. I paired it with a track power 13.5T brushless, sensored motor. Before installation in my new axial rr10 bomber, I made sure to update the firmware/software on the esc from hobby wing. I set the settings on the esc to what I want in my crawler type vehicle. What I'm looking for is smooth slow speed operation, and a fair amount of "get up and go" when I want it. The problem I'm having is cogging. I have smooth slow speed starts, but when I encounter an obstacle to go over or begin a crawl like maneuver, it starts cogging like crazy. This is a new build. Hasn't seen the trail yet. Stock gearing. Venom 5400 Mah 20C 3 cell lipo. Any suggestions to correct this would be very helpful. Please and thank you. Iv also tried a 25C and 50C 2S lipo. Problem still occurs.

check all the wiring, especially make sure the sensore wire is in tight and no dust or debris is in the plug. then check your motor wire orientation. A B C matched up.

HobbyWing makes some of the smoothest brushless systems on the market. You shouldn't be having a cogging issue if everything else is correct.

What's your gearing?

whatever the gearing is on a Bomber stock. Both the motor and esc came with a sensor wire. I'll try swapping it out tonight and let you guys no if there is any change.

Is your motor or ESC getting hot?

Cogging is almost always caused by a bad / loose sensor wire on sensored systems or not noticing that the the controller is set to sensor-less mode. But also make sure that your drive train isn't binding somewhere.

It would probably help to drop the pinion by a tooth or two but I doubt that is the source of your problem.

This is unrelated, but I wouldn't trust the 25C or 20C lipos with that system. That's a little too much motor for those packs.

5400mAh battery, 20c is 108 amps, that's not enough?

Did you calibrate the ESC with the radio? And have you tried playing with the throttle punch setting?

I'm having the exact same issue with my brushless system. I'm running a Tekin ROC 412 1800kv driven by a Tekin RSX on 3S geared at 14/88. I'm working on the ESC using my Hotwire and it's getting better, but I've never had a cogging issue to work through on any of my race trucks/ buggies so I'm kinda shorting in the dark.

I planned to reach out to Tekin today but got caught up with work and didn't get it done.

Today I called Tekin and they gave me the ESC setup that is supposed to stop the cogging issue. I'll grab my Hotwire tomorrow and program it into the ESC and let you know how it works.

That SCTpro will not crawl . I tried every combination of motor/rx/servo I had to try and stop the cogging , nothing worked.
I thought I had a dud esc until a friend tried to get one crawling and gave up too . For an SC truck they are an awesome esc , for slooow crawling , they just plain suck . Google it , plenty of similar results.
Buy an MMP , Holmes or an RX8 and you won't look back.

Well, I solved my cogging problem today. After chasing it around for days and getting nowhere. Today I finally thought of checking the sensor wire.

Plugged fully in to the ESC and… cogging went away.

Yes I'm a dumb ass !

I had the same issue when I first went to brushless and kept just glancing over all my wires and making sure the sensor was plugged in all the way not even paying attention one of the small black wires had broke on the sensor wire.

Glad to see it was a simple fix alot of the times its just simple stuff we over look being excited to drive your rig lol
