I cut the steering stops off and this caused my dog bones to pop out at full lock. I purchased small o-rings from a local hardware store and put two in each of the inner drive cups. This forces the dogbones deeper into the outer drive cups. The dogbones have not popped out since. This simple mod seems to have solved my problem and it saved me from having to immediately buy CVDs.

Just want to thank you for this build thread! This has been my go-to reference thread while resurrecting my old CC01. It's been sitting down in my basement collecting dust for the past few years. I am having a blast getting it revamped and running again!

put 3mm spacers between the lower arm mounts and the chassis. makes a big difference but you will throw dog bones more often, even with o-rings.

I put spacers there, probably about 3mm. I used silicone fuel line in both inner and outer drive cups and am no longer having the dog bones pop out. Still need steering kit and ally servo mount.

I know this is an old thread but I am reading up on as much as I can and I am interested in locking the diffs on my project but I had a question about steering. It has been my experience on full sized vehicles that a locked front diff combined with a locked rear diff makes for a vehicle that doesn't turn. Granted my experience is with ag equipment and custom 4x4 trucks and jeeps which usually had an air locker that could be applied or released as needed. Do these have a maneuverability issue on high traction surfaces with a locked front diff? If so I might just lock the rear. This is a great site and a great thread. I am glad that I found this place!
