bilinvic's SCX10.2 Build Ver. 2

Here's another nostopinLucR production co-starring my SCX10.2 v2 from last weekend.....

Here's a quick vid of my 10.2 and my friend's 10.2. My MMP was not waterproofed yet and he was running the stock RTR electronics. I waterproofed my MMP the next day with MG Chemicals Urethane Conformal Coating.

Whew....A 7 hour, 14.5 kilometer run today with the v2 10.2. Started at 225 foot elevation, went up to 1200', back down to 700', up to 1950' and back down. Today's run was more a trail run whereas normally the focus is on crawling. We did have lot's of good technical crawling spots along the way in addition to lots of water climbing trails on the mountain side. It wasn't until the way back down I tried to get some air on a little rock and snapped the stock plastic Panhard mount on the shock hoop; looks like another order to RPP will be coming now! Luckily I was packing my v1 10.2 in my backpack and was able to carry on.

It was a fantastic day, but I am a hurtin' unit....nothing that a beer (or a case of beer) won't cure!

On a side note, prior to running today, I vented the front KLR tires using a leather punch (3 holes). I really liked the tire performance and now I will vent the rears as well. The silver rubber compound is so soft and pliable that it gets holes fairly easily on the side walls and in the bead from the sharp rocks. I will change out the rear Ottsix foams to a set of stiffer Lil' Nova foams so that they aren't too soft.

She's all cleaned up, fixed up and ready to rock again!

I went with Samix front shock hoops for three main reasons:
1. multiple upper shock mount positions;
2. double sheer Panhard mount
3. Price

I'm normally a Vanquish fan boy (Yes, I admit it!!!) but their new machined 10.2 shock hoops are way over-priced IMHO and don't offer any optional mounting points. Plus, I only wanted front shock hoops; the rear Axial plastic ones are perfectly fine and are less weight than metal hoops.

I'm impressed with the fit and finish of the Samix parts, these are the first ones I have ever bought of this brand. I also like that there are pre-threaded holes on the top of each hoop so that a horizontal cross-member can be added for structural support if wanted. The body posts are perfectly aligned and match the position of the stock hoops. I don't suspect I will ever have another issue with breaking a Panhard mount again.

I would like to note that with all the water that we "played" in last ride, the insides of the VP 10.2 axles were dry. I opened them expecting to see lots of moisture inside, but there wasn't. I still cleaned all the grease out and inspected the ring, pinion, locker & bearings....all looked like new.

I also treated the rusty Toyota to some new shoes. Proline's newest 1.9 tire; BFGoodrich Krawler T/A KX. I ordered CI lil' Nova 4.25" foams; soft outer on the fronts, medium outer on the rears. This size foam feels perfect for these tires and I am confident they are going to perform really well. Very good spacing between the lugs and of course, P-L's sticky G8 compound. The pics show them right out of the bags, I still have to give them a bath in some Castrol Super Clean (Purple Power).

I run the Samix front hoops on my 10.2 also and haven't had any problems. I love them.

It removes any mold release agent and makes the tires super sticky. I use this stuff after every outing on all my tires.

How tall are the Proline Krawlers? Cus I ran the 4.5" lil novas in my Axial BFG Krawlers. The 4.25s felt too small.

hi Billy

did you trim the side plate so the tyre can fit in without rubbing the side plate?
i am thinking about getting super swamper tsl xl 1.9 but i am afraid it will rubbing the body fender and the side plate
. thanks

No, I did not have to trim the side plates. I did add internal and external limiters on my shocks because there was too much articulation.

Hi Billy,

Your rig looks awesome and has been a big inspiration as I just built my first kit. I went with the same motor, but with an HH TrailMaster BLE Pro ESC and I was wondering what settings you made to get the nice crawling performance out of the brushless motor. My PWM came set to dithered, which has been a bit weird. I've been tweaking that and testing. Any notable ESC settings to have?

Many thanks
