I have a corner in my backyard that I was considering buying a few pallets of rocks to create a small crawling area. Is there a type of rock that is best to use for this?

Well now this is a new one...

Sticky rocks! :ror:

A variety is good. You want some high traction rocks and some slick rocks like slate.

I like to use granite and basalt. Basalt is cheap and pretty much available everywhere.

Granite is mostly what I use on my backyard course and what is readily available in my region. I’d say score what’s readily available where you live and test n tune the rig for traction on it.

Also - scout Craigslist. I’ve scored quite a few rock piles for free just to haul them away. I also scope out new neighborhoods going in and construction sites. More often than not, they turn up a bunch of rocks and boulders while grading and just end up having them hauled away. In the interest of being legit, I usually ask for the site foreman to see if it’s cool if I grab some rocks. Most have been cool with it.

Yeah each type of rock is usually a different price so that may guide your choice.

Personally I like variety
