Best online hobby shop for new rtr

This: no ideal what he is talking about.
TRX4 Sport I have 2. If you need speed throw in a 3800kv Castle Slate. 1 has wore out chubs I have the parts to fix but it's my beater. I broke the front spool dang pot metal but replaced it with a Locked up rc FI Spool for the trx4. $20 well spent thinking about getting 3 moremfor the rest of the axles.

What lingo are you not understanding?

On the other hand
Deadbolt is appealing due to the 299 price

Baseline is honestly a good looking rig.
They are about the same really $309

Trx4 sport a good looking rig also

So now I’m just reading and learning components.

like:
Both Srx10s run the dynamite or axiel branded 540 35t motors, but the TRX runs a 21t titan motor. So more speed less torque but a solid $20 motor.

I honestly don't think that you'd be at all disappointed with either. Both are proven in performance and quality. Both have strong manufacturer support as well as aftermarket... the TRX4 more-so but it's been around longer too. I don't have any experience with the Baseline but I've read a lot from owners and again... it's another good choice. Once you narrow down 2-3 rigs, then start looking more closely at the details and specs. Figure out if a certain feature is something that you think you'll need/ want.

One thing to add here regarding the expense to replace TRX4 parts... I agree that Traxxas replacement parts are expensive when talking electronics... actually quite overpriced considering what you get... batteries, chargers, ESCs, servos, etc. But I think as noted already, electronic components are often a cost-cutting measure by many RC companies. Don't let that deter you from any RC.

You can have a great rig performance-wise but doesn't mean that every part or component is going to be high-quality. You can replace parts as they fail ( if they fail) and when you do, you can expect to often pay quite a bit less for the same or even better aftermarket parts. Example: Traxxas 5000mAh 25C 3S = $70. Turnigy 5000mAh 30C 3S = $25. And the Turnigy comes with an XT60 so you're not stuck using Traxxas proprietary connectors.

If you smoke a factory RC part you don't need to spend a premium price to replace it with the same part that's likely just going to fail again.

It's a bit overwhelming at first but that's any hobby really. Don't hesitate to ask questions when you feel the need. That's what a discussion forum is all about. RCC isn't going to steer you wrong and they'll be honest in their advice/ experience.
Agreed that I think either the Axial SCX10 II Base Camp or Traxxas TRX-4 are great rigs and any person would be happy with them out of the box.

Yeah Traxxas electronics are overpriced. I will agree with that. But their batteries and chargers are super convenient for newbies. Although I think Spektrum is trying that now. But a person is better off using non-Traxxas electronics to save money and often get better quality and more features for the same or less money.

I don’t have a basecamp but have enough axial platforms. Knowing what I have read from you My $.02 would be putting you in a trx4 sport. Don’t worry what one has over the other, it really doesn’t matter at this time. At some point in time a few things will be replaced. Soldering on new connectors (ie. XT60) would be the first thing to do, simple and a good skill to learn. A 2s Lipo battery in a 5200mah from Amazon or the like will provide hours of use with minimal downtime. A 2 pack is $30 or so when I bought some last.

Drive it till the wheels fall off, keep it clean after a dirty run and don’t lock up the wheels on an obstacle.

Post some pictures when you get whatever comes in!

The Dead Bolt comes with plastic links and shocks. I didn't realize this. The Base Camp has aluminum links and shocks so it is better equipped for not much more money. But yes, I'd choose the TRX-4 Sport over both of those. The Axial will have higher performance, but the Traxxas is higher quality and more durable at the expensive of weight so you will have to work a bit harder to make it perform exactly like an SCX10.

In terms of motors you can buy a Holmes Hobbies CrawlMaster Sport or TrailMaster Sport for $20:

I missed this part initially. The spool locks the right axle to the left so they are both powered by the ring gears from the pinion gear. Spool is attached to the ring gear as shown in the attached photo and circled in red.

The C-Hubs or chubs are circled in green.

oh I get it, I’ll prob end up with the TRX4 sport in tan and when I break or burn something out I order upgrades.
That's the way to do it! People will tell you what you "need" but you are a newbie so you will have a blast with a new RTR! And adding upgrades slowly as required or as you want is a fun way to do it. I'm getting excited for you!

Sorry I'll break it down for ya. That stock spool is the only weak link I have found in the trx4 so far. That FI spool is bomb proof should you need it.
My beater trx4 is abused. Hammer down run it hard, submarine it, mud bath it, it's even fallen off a trail bridge about 15' to the ground.

I thought about going to a 2 speed trans but with the 3800kv Castle I don't need a 2 speed trans.

Yeah Traxxas electronics are overpriced. I will agree with that. But their batteries and chargers are super convenient for newbies.
Absolutely agree on the convenience but ultimately I spent a lot more than I ever should've, sticking with Traxxas batteries because as a noob I wasn't aware of how to get way more bang for the buck. If I had, I would've scrapped the XL5 and grossly overpriced Traxxas batteries and instead gone with a HW1080wp, a couple of Zippys or Turnigys and a pack of XT60s. Same with their EZ Peak charger. $120 is ridiculous to spend when you can get a much more versatile quality iMAX B6AC V2 for under $50. Traxxas servos... same deal.

I hate when noobs think that Traxxas has them by the balls with their crappy overpriced electronics. So many better/ cheaper/ quality choices... especially now days. The TRX4 platform is a great rig and worth every penny... just helps to know that if/ when something fails, you don't have to run back to Traxxas for a replacement. Side note- The Titan 550 has never let me down in either of my TRX4's even though I did eventually replace both with Trailmasters.

I agree about Traxxass chargers and batteries. I feel the same about the Spectrum smart system. I like to choose what battery and charger I use.
If your are crawling with friends find out what battery plug they use. Incase you guys need to share a battery some time or get the adaptor plugs. We use deans or T plug as a group.

The TRX4 sport was my first crawler on 2019 .... Its what started the bug and now there is a fleet on the garage .... I would say at some point down the line of you getting the Traxxas rig you will find yourself having and wanting multiple models. The TRX4 still ripping hard ... it is stout and strong a bit top heavy with the portals but plenty of proven info to bring down the center of gravity. As mentioned the ease and user friendly battery charger and batteries helped a lot due to the tragic stories you hear from the lipo battery world... Being safe to your place is key, I still use the 5 year old traxxas 2s-3s charger that was picked up with the trx4 and use it as our regular charger for all of my batteries even the non-traxxas ones. I have axial rigs and they are just as great and fun to drive and once you go down the rabit hole of RC you will want to try the different set ups (portals, straight axles, trail truck, comp truck, IFS, leafs, etc). Nonetheless the TRX4 is a great choice. I would encourage the builders kit and you can build and choose your electronics but I know you mentioned RTR. This is our well used and well use and naturally weather TRX4sport.

While I am settled I do wonder of course and saw something about Element in this post?

What are the expressions on the the Enduro SE Trail Truck, Sendero RTR kit car for $275 or $339 with battery and charger almost feels like stealing if its decent to start with.

I've never been impressed enough to buy an Element. That's all I can say about them.

I like the 2 element trucks we have. They are very simple and easy to work on compared to the other trucks. They have their quirks as well though. But they are a better platform to start customizing into something you want than as a starter truck I think.

Unless you just want really simple and know you're going to tinker. More for fun then breaking stuff though.

Also with the SE models you didn't get one of the best things from element. The aluminum shocks. The plastic ones aren't bad but the aluminum ones are pretty good and leak free.

Im fighting with the price of it, its cheaper and a base to start building on. Plus I dont know what I like and dont like yet.

I know I mentioned it earlier because of the price and I am partial to AE from back in the day racing. I can’t personally stand plastic shock bodies and bushings. Will it work, absolutely!
