Selling RC in 2023 and navigating the IRS

OS, I’ve noticed that also. List tons of stuff for sale and zero offers not even low balls. Parts, trucks, doesn’t matter. I’ve become a hoarder because of it. This whole deal is just ridiculous

Not to be terribly rude but trying to process the ignorance you just typed is hurting my brain, I can't turn off enough brain cells. Helps if you read my ENTIRE post.

Wow. Thanks for only being a little bit rude then.

Not being rude at all in my response - instead of just calling out someone else's ignorance and being all high and mighty, why not actually correct them?

I've pretty much stopped selling whole rigs online because shipping has went up quite a bit over the years, but this new Paypal crap has totally stopped me from selling anything online, I'll sell local for cash or do trades but that's it for me, if it doesn't sell oh well i'll just keep it.

Yeah the shipping in the US went completely insane, it really caught me off guard. I just sold some 1/10 trail trucks on ebay, one going from east coast to New Mexico that cost $103 to ship! This was via USPS using their slowest possible service. Next time I could try FedEx or something, but realistically my days of selling R/C vehicles online are over. The time and hassle absolutely isn't worth the peanuts you're left with in the end, especially when you factor in this tax complication.

What bums me out is what this means for the future. I'm still in the hobby and I'm still going to cycle through vehicles over time. So now when I'm done with a vehicle the options are:

1. Part it out. This might save on shipping but takes even more time and hassle to do and doesn't avoid the tax complication, so this option is out.
2. Throw it in a box or on a shelf. I'm not into hoarding RC's and I don't like clutter so this option is out.
3. Sell it cheap locally. The local RC market is basically non-existent, also dealing with the time-wasters that tend to come out of the woodwork on Facebook marketplace is not my idea of a good time. This option is out.
4. Just throw it away?...

I can understand, in the past 2 years, my school tax has jumped the max percentage both years (odd since we have thrown a ton of money at schools in the past 2 years, but I digress), yearly truck registration has tripled, electric bill has gone up 20% as Jan 1 - can't wait for that bill, I'm getting the highest heating oil bills I've ever gotten, trash service went up 25%, gas is still high compared to 2 years ago ($3.58 across the street) and don't even get me started on grocery bills with 2 kids that are eating me out of house and home. I don't give a RA what the fed says, I calculate we are spending 48% more than we were 2 years ago.

I just wanted to say I feel your frustration and completely relate to it. The headline inflation numbers that get reported on are crazy-making because they are so much lower than most normal folks are experiencing.

5. donate it to a kid from a family that would never be able to get one for the kid.
Seems like the most probable good outcome that can come from these ****ing Pedoloving Commie wastes of oxygen in 'CONtrol'.

When a previous poster said it will be ugly, I see Marianne Toinette proceedings happening.

Allowing stolen elections to stand have consequences, and non of them are ever good until the end one.

When trump left office, we were at 1% over cost. Six months of biden, n he had us back over 5%. The demoncrats want the public to HAVE TO rely on the government. So theyre doin everything they can to get us to that point. If we have no money, we have to rely on them for everything. I hope n pray the demonvrats dont get back in the next pres election, or we're screwed for sure.

Pretty sad we pay taxes from our paychecks n pay taxes at the stores, now they wanna tax us for sellin our own stuff?! Im with yall, its easier to sell local, part them out, or shelf them

Do you have any thoughts about how to find families in need? I live in a sparsely populated area but if there was a way to connect with children who would genuinely enjoy the RC, I would consider this. It's difficult because I don't have any local connections besides family (e.g., I'm not part of a church).

Yep! We're FU***D if that happens...again!

Love reading the responses, this is a pretty ugly thing happening to our hobby, and lots of others too.

Long rant coming....

No it won't. Your average American is, I'm sad to say, lazy and ignorant when it comes to issues such as these. They don't like being hit in the pocketbook, but otherwise they tune it all out. By design I might add. Making political discussions so vitriolic that no one engages in them means you can do what you want - no one is paying attention anymore. And that's exactly where we are.

...

Not sure what to do at this point.

I don't think it is any doubt that I am right-leaning, just a bit... But, I try to keep a pulse on the left, and I try to keep an open mind about their ideologies, or at the very least, try to weigh the sense of them against my own prejudices (this is a lot harder than you think it is), so I scan through news outlets and feeds that cater to the left. I ran across a couple of stories about the e-commerce reporting requirements and how much that is going to hurt the gig-economy. Your Uber drivers, food delivery people, and many work-from-home giggers flew under the radar for taxation until this little chuck of legislation came to fruition, now they are bitching up a storm. So, if the morons that elected the leftist retards into office are getting upset, then there might be some hope? I would link some of these articles, but they seem to taken down soon after they are posted, I guess they cut against the narrative that these unbiased media outlets are trying to push...

The next push will be digital currency. The final blow to any kind of financial privacy, even locally. The quality of our leadership here in North America has reached an all-time low.

Usually not to hard to find. Rough yards, Old Vehicles, old unfit clothes.
Another option is to visit one of the local Churches as they generally have a good idea of which families/kids would appreciate this type of thing.

I live in a pretty well off area as far as city/county, but even here it's there if anyone is willing to see.

Don't need to be a part of a Church to stop in and see who they know in the pews that could use something of this sort.

Boys and Girls clubs or Scouting clubs (though I'm not a be supporter anymore of the Scouts) is another path you may be able to explore.

Not only in North America, all over Europe as well. *bay changed in 2021 their payment rules: if you want to sell anymore, you have to process all payments trough *bay (applies to all kinds of payment service).
Now there is a new law that ranks all sales profit above 2000 Euro as commercial and has to be taxed. The platform (*bay) has to report these profits to the taxation authority.
Digital currency will be forced next.

They can't ever stop people from trading commodities & services, which is exactly what will happen if they eliminate physical currency. The value of gold and silver will skyrocket, as will other precious metals, like lead and brass, especially when they're assembled with a little gunpowder inside.

I would bet the next BS on this is going to be state sales tax. I know our state charges sales tax on used item sales (seems like double taxation to me, but what do I know.) and then technically, you are supposed to self report any sales as income and fork over the vig. Ebay already collects sales tax for the state... It's only a matter of time until they try and implement it through PP/venmo.

**** the IRS. Commie Crooks from the Start, just like their Parent Company the Federal Reserve Bank, which is not Federal, has no reserves, nor is it a Bank.

It's a Private Corporation just named The Federal Reserve. Like Federal Express, or Prime Reserve Ale. Just Corpse-Orations, aka the talking dead.

Did you not know how Conscription works?

Its a bunch of bullcrap n on top of that, invasion of privacy. The government just wants more of our money, n the only way to do it is tax the crap out of us. Its none of thier business wat we buy or sell as individuals. People are goina get fed up with the dumb crap n its not goina be pretty

X2, that's why I've not sold anything on feebay for couple years, so many fees and now mandatory tax collection from those of us just swapping around rigs...ridiculous! PP can bite too, dont use those commies anymore either. I've had several good RC trucks in excellent condition and some 1:1 auto parts on CL and barely even got a lowballer idiot in the past two years! Sold one to a friend for a good deal, kept the rest.

Soooo many great replies in this thread! Don't vote for Demonrats and RINOs, then this crap will end! Also get rid of the WEF (World Economic Forum) un-elected elitists who want to control everything we do! Klaus Schwab said that we will own nothing and be happy. BS!!! Eliminate them and the Deep State.

This is why Brandon bought $9 million of 9mm rounds and tried to hire another 87,000 IRS agents, to screw We the People!

Big tech is in bed with them all, they are getting paid lots of money to censor online speech, same goes with Big Pharma.

They want to get rid of cash, then if they want....all your 'money' is switched off anytime they disagree with your freedom of speech or thoughts.

They want to get rid of God and churches, look at all the church burnings under Turdeau's reign...they do nothing. Our rights are God given and therefore cannot be taken away...but if they eliminate God and all religions, then they are in control of us. Why do you think every good Communist and Socialist has outlawed all religion? Very sad.

Don't forget the pLandemic, great way to kill off and/or weaken millions of people, while trial run locking us down. Now banks and woke corporations are pushing ESG (look it up) just another way to control us and what We the People spend our money on!

A head of lettuce costs double what it did less than two years ago, just bought a gallon of windshield washer fluid and it's over double the price from couple months ago! Restaurant prices have gone up and/or portions have gone down, they always hit you up for a tip even at to go places...what did you do for? Didn't even wipe the table or empty the garbage cans let alone bring my food, check if needed anything else or bus the table when people are done!

So, if you crash the country and make people dependent on the government, then they are beholden to it...what a great evil plan.

And for anyone touting the benefits of "DIGITAL CURRENCY" like Shitcoin, you need to know this bitcoin Concepts was being pushed upon us in the 1970's and earlier for anyone looking, but it was the late 70s when the 'concept' was put out to the public en masse during the Debut of the new TV Series here in the states called...

BattleStar Galactica.

NLP - Nural Linguistic Programming works.

My friends and I used PayPal or Zelle to pay one another just for random crap we do. "Hey, pick me up a case of beer while you're at the store" type stuff. I'm not keeping track of all that. I deleted my PayPal. Their fees and shipping got too expensive anyway. I'm only selling stuff local for cash or trade only. Even if I only get 1/2 the price of an online sale it pretty much balances out to the same amount in my pocket.
