AWD grand cherokees, 2wd conversion?

Well, I guess everyone has their own opinion. My jeep, by todays standards, doesnt have big tires and the chain didnt last long...

Ive been out of the loop with the 4 wheeling for some time. I have no idea what today's standards are, but 35's are big tires in my book. And you wheel I assume? That's a different story too. I wouldn't expect a 231 to hold up real long with 4 wheeling and 35s. But for a grocery getter, they're fine, that's all I'm saying.

35's are the norm these days...

BTW, like I said earlier, the chain isnt the only issue with that t-case....the aluminum housing is not strong enough either...I've seen them snap like a twig. It might be fine in a soccer mom's grand, but he said that he wanted to tow with this thing, which I assume means his ski boat (not a small boat).

Depending on the weight of that boat, it might be too big for the WJ to haul. IIRC they're 5,000lbs max on the 4.0l and 6,000lbs max on the 4.7l. I'll be honest too, we've run 3 of the weaker 242 XJ's over 200k and only one of them failed before the vehicle did. Dad bought that one at around 100k and abused it as a railroad truck while carrying hundreds of pounds of track maintenence tools in the back, and would sometimes pull out much heavier truck that had become stuck on by the track they were working on. Dad also thinks the previous owner had been using it as a tow rig for a boat that weighed more that the 5,000lbs limit.
