any crawlers in MN?

I wouldn't mind shortening the WB of the Supers, I think the body's look better on them. I don't mind either way, although I wouldn't want to lose any competitors. But I will say, my last version of my Clod (run only last 2 comps) went from 16" wb to 18" wb. I wish I'd of known this would be in the works :-(
As long at the 4ws is left alone, I have too much $ into servo's ;-)
I think it would be something to put to a club vote later, as things at USRCCA are finalized. Sounds like the Super class isn't going anywhere at the National level at this time, so we could go either way, or both I suppose, if we had enough interest.

axles ?

Can someone tell me who makes the narrowest axles? With 0 offset rims id like to know what end to end is. The body id like to build a 1.9 out of is only 7 ¼ wide.
The cores I set up Sunday was fun. Only my friend Dave came for like 6 hours. We had it all. Rocks, sand, logs, wood chips, hill clime and even a suspension bridge. Ill post some video later.

TLT axles are as narrow as you will get, without dropping big bucks on Robbe axles or custom modded CC-01 axles. With 1.9 rims and tires, a tlt axle is 8 inches wide.

I am not sure of the Robbe axle sizes, but they are from Germany, and there is not much support for them here.

CC01 axles, they only come in a solid rear axle. But some have made custom cases and built their own front axles. Others have bonded axle C's onto the stock rear cases, and make one off front axles. But replacement parts would have to be custom made.

Axial axles are wider then TLT axles, and Wheeley king axles are even wider then that.

Sunday

Ill be outside in the garage on Sunday agene if anyone would like to do some crawling. I just got one yard of dirt today so ill be setting up a new course. This will be the 3ed design. Here’s a like to some video of the first course Dave an I set up. The battery on the camera went dead so Dave is the only one that I got in the video.

thanks for the axle info

Hey MaddJack,
Which 1.9 beadlocks did you order? I need a set myself I was thinking MSD has their new aluminum Buckshot wheel coming out soon (Jan). I have a set of 2.2 RockSolid Top Guns in aluminum, they are really flashy. I'm in a painting mood right now I'm working on a Losi Grappler for the comp rig, I just got a new compressor and need to give it a try. I'm going to try and build a dig cause you gotta have one now, but I'm going to wait and see if one of these vendors comes up with a descent one. There's a big market for them now.

They are the second set I ordered they have a lifetime guarentee.don't order the ones from the crawler store, I had to send them back, wouldn't hold the tire on."thumbsup"

So you weren't happy with the dig collar you built? Quite frankly most of the "home mades" I've seen look a little fragile? The only other option is the R2D and I like the Axial tranny much better. So I'm going to try and build one. Sooner or later someone will get smart and offer a well made collar. I might just end up with the R2D but I'm gonna give a "home made" a shot first.

Been there done that"thumbsup"

Rules Committee Update

The rules committee is starting to wrap up. Fishy has announced a Last Call. Here's what we have changed so far:

1)Remove "Stage" from the rules.

2)Drop "1/10th only" and "3 inches max cut off" from the Body Rule.

3)Add lanuage that covers Unibodies:

2.2 Crawler class tube chassis are allowed with the following restrictions. Overall dimension of the complete chassis must be at least 8"overall length, 3" overall width, and 3.75" overall height, the roof must be raised from the main chassis to resemble a cockpit, and it must have solid hood, roof and side panels. Tube chassis’ should resemble a 1:1 vehicle and be constructed of either round tube or solid round stock. Any material type can be used,ie.steel,aluminum,plastic. Anything that does not fit these guidelines is required to run a body that fits withing the body regulations.
4)Re-write of the Touch Rule and Points:
Penalties
Reverse: 1 point

Rollover: 5 points
Vehicle Touch: 10 points
Gate Marker: 10 points

Reverse: (1 pt) point is given when a vehicle reverses course after making forward progress. Reversing is defined as at any time if the tires move the vehicle backward or spin in the reverse direction, whether intentional or not. Once a reverse penalty is given, no further reverse penalty can be given until the vehicle makes forward progress. No penalty is given if the backward movement is part of a penalized rollover. A maximum 10 penalty point per gate for reverses. (See page 4 for Reverse examples and explanations.)

Rollover: (5 pts) points are given when vehicles rollover, and cannot be corrected without touching. Vehicles that land back on their wheels are not penalized. No reverse penalties are given until vehicle is back on 4 wheels. A vehicle can only be pushed back on to its wheels from the side. Anything else is a Vehicle Touch.

Vehicle Touch: (10 pts) All vehicle touches excluding “Rollovers” (See Rollover rule), intentional or unintentional, are given an automatic 10 points. Time is stopped by the judge when either the driver calls for a vehicle touch or the judge calls a driver touch. The vehicle is then moved back by the driver to the previously cleared gate with the rear axle aligned to the gate. If the gate cannot be aligned to the gate due to course design, the judge will reposition the vehicle to the next stable location after the cleared gate. This location will be used for all drivers. Note: All gates are still “live” unless a gate has already been deemed “dead”.

  • Vehicle Touches include but are not limited to: repairs, repositions, vehicle driving/falling into the driver.
  • Time is stopped by the judge to allow for safe reposition of the vehicle only, but is not allowed to be used for driver review of the course or other advantages.
  • Repairs: Repairs taking less than 1minute may be completed on course. Repairs taking longer than 1 minute must be completed off course in the pit area. If repairs cannot be made within 30 minutes the driver is given a DNF minus progress points. If the repair is made in the allotted time the driver may return to the course. 1 minute will be subtracted from the time that is left on the course and the timer will continue once the vehicle makes forward progress.
Gate Marker: (10 pts each) each gate will be comprised of 2 gate markers. Points are given when 4 wheels do not travel between gate markers or any part of the vehicle or driver touches a gate marker. Once any gate marker has been touched or straddled, no more penalties will be given for that gate marker. All gate markers will remain "live" for the entire duration of the course attempt. Only when a gate penalty is assessed will that gate marker be deemed "dead". No further penalties will be assessed at this point for that gate marker. (See page 4 for Gate Marker and Gate Clearing explanations.)

General Event Rules & Event Management
Any violations of event rules are subject to disqualification by judges or event organizers.

No modification to the course is allowed by the driver. This includes, but not limited to removing of rocks, stacking of rocks, purging a puddle of water or other types of modifications.

Are there any last suggestions?

Jack was posting in reference to Troys link, not your post Storm :)

I played with the collar setup and didn't feel it was reliable enough. Kevin ran it this year, and it let him down more then it ever helped him. And Kevin still did very well this last season without dig, he wouldn't have placed any better if he had dig either. If you think about it, dig will only net you 2-5 points a day on average with how we have our courses setup. Now look at the average daily standings, most people are spread out more then 5 points. And if you look at the season standings, I do not think dig would have moved to many people up in rankings, for those that do not have dig.

Dig has also cost me a gate before, as it didn't unlock when I needed it to. If I would have taken a reverse rather then try to use dig on the gate, I would have been better off. Dig does not make the big difference you guys think it does, its like racing and only helps you gain a slight edge when you are in the top of the pack.

Now if we included more steep stair like ledges in our courses, then dig without the braking feature might help a lot. But have not build courses like that, since most of the trucks in our club would never make it. But currently it has the potential to save you a few reverses on the tighter turns, if you time it out just right.
