Hi all, I've done a bit of searching but can't seem to find if anyone has attempted a 313mm wheelbase on a CC01. I have found d 3D print files of brackets to assist in achieving this so I know at least 1 person out there has attempted it! Haha.

If you're aware of anyone having done this, I'd be keen to see it.

Regardless, I'm going to attempt it. I have a spare CC01 lying around and a toddler that is keen to have his own truck. So here we go!

Here's how it sits at present

Next to my own CC01

Can't say I've ever seen a 12.3" wheelbase CC-01, but if anybody on this site has done it, it would be @OSRC

Thanks mate, appreciate the info. The fact that I can't find any info on a 313mm wheelbase CC01 just makes me want to do it more. I'm confident I can achieve it, I just hope it is relatively drivable.
You're welcome. I'm sure it'll be drivable. You just may have to increase steering throw for that long wheelbase. I forget how much steering angle the CC-01 has in stock form.

I used some aluminium angle and drilled holes 313mm apart, attached to the outdrives and began to gwt the rear 4 links sorted. It's not perfect, but it'll work for now

This is definitely an interesting project. I do recall a long wheelbase CC01 build back in the day but I don’t think it was 12.3”. Maybe closer to 11.5” or so. I definitely recall some sort of chassis extension. Good luck.

Nice work! Been a while since I've seen a cool CC01 build.

Yes I stretched one out but it was a bit narrow for the body I had planned to use so I never ran it. I did use some aluminum pieces to stretch out the chassis a little bit to give me better shock mount options as well as a spot to mount a rear bumper.

It still lives on with a new stock chassis, portals and a shortened Ecto body.

Got the 4 link all sorted

Pretty happy with it so far, still need to add some more pieces to strengthen it up a bit.

Next will be making a lengthened drive shaft

Body arrived!

Here it is with 110mm OD tyres. I feel they're perhaps a touch too big

And with 94mm tyres that I thi k are a touch too small

The wheelbase also appears to be slightly out but shouldn't be a difficult fix

Thoughts?

What are we looking width wise?
Maybe a 100-102mm tire is where it’s at? I'm going to have to keep an eye out on this thread since I have the same body, and will have a tire dilemma sometime in the future. I think i initially had injora or the rc4wd dick cepek mud toughcountry 105mm diameter or something or another tires. I'll have to have a look and report back.

The bigger ones (that are stock axial SCX10 wheels) are about 40mm wide, the smaller ones are 38mm.

I just tried it with some RC4WD mud threshers that are 104mm and think I actually prefer the larger axial ones

Only issue is, they'll rub the chassis under full lock AND full compression. Not a huge issue but still annoying

I need to sort out the correct wheelbase before I make a decision. Just looking at it makes them all look wrong

Got the rear body mount made up today. I refused to pay Au$60 for the aluminium one designed for this body, so made one myself. The part that locks into the body doesn't have much bite, so I'm sceptical about how it'll hold up. Anyway, it's mounted and straight and I'm happy with it. I've designed it so that I can adjust its length in order to line it up correctly with the wheels

So, the day started off well. I got the front body munt complete and was able to tske the car for its first test run with the body mounted. Very happy with the progress

Then, disaster.

I decided to use some thread lock on all the pieces I had added to make sure it wouldn't come apart. I have never previously had an issue with thread lock on the dozens of RC cars I've worked on. I used a different thread lock brand and it didn't mate well with the plastic chassis. Started to eat through it and, well, I dont think it's salvageable.

I could probably add some aluminium bracing but there are a number of hairline cracks now and the plastic seems to be severely weakened. Looks like I'll be trying to source a new chassis.

I'm gutted. I've spent many hours measuring and custom fitting pieces and finally got it together. Ugh.

Sorry to hear of your disaster, and I hope this helps.
*EDIT
I'm not sure what price it shows on your side of the world. For me its $20

I just found this on AliExpress:
$9.12 | for RCRUN 1/10 LC80 Hard Body Roof Rack Interior Tail Ladder Spare Wheel Carrier Snorkel LED Lamp for RC Crawler TRX4 SCX10

I too have had this happen. Unless the fasteners are going into metal, and there's no chance of it contacting plastic. I've opted to using just nylock nuts now. Sucks that we have to learn the hard way.

The good news, as posted above me. You can get a spare chassis, and for relatively cheap. You'll have to redo all the work though.

Hey mate, yeah I had seen that on Aliexpress, however that's not the actual price. If you click on the image of the piece you want, the price changes. It's usually Au$100 but only $30 at the moment. The mounts I've made are essentially the same so should be fine for now.

As for the chassis, I managed to find one on Stellamodels for AU$45 shipped, so will have to wait for it to arrive.

Appreciate you doing some searching for me mate, thanks heaps!

So the new chassis arrived and I've almost got it all back together. I had planned on relocationg the servo to the front but I couldn't bring myself to hack up the new chassis. Maybe some time in the future.

Anyway, got it all together and tested. Noticed a prominent knocking sound. I read somewhere that it could be that one of the screws holding the gearbox cover down needs tightening. In my case, easing the screw of about a quarter turn seemed to lessen the noise.

Anyway, we're basically back to where we left off and it feels nice to have a fresh new chassis to build upon
