Well, I finally bit the bullet and turned my wallet inside out.

I told AmainHobbies to ship me a VS4-10 pro. Along with a bunch (not all necessary) other parts. And some china-special rims***

Do I need the car? nope. Is the added rigidity required for my driving style?not really (or I keep telling myself). But I’m a sucker for engineering and this car is as close as you can get how I would design my car. The design requirements used are the same as I like to aim for in my own builds. though limited tools make them hard to achieve.

I don’t wan’t complicating iems as portals and 2-speed ( nothing wrong with them, just not my thing). But anything that is mounted should be bulletproof.

After* along wait the tracking app woke up the saturday before easter; I could collect a package at my local post office.

That kinda changed the saturday planning. starting with: “no,no. I’m just checking to see if it’s all there” and ended with: ”Are you coming to diner or what?”

I will spare you lot a detailed epos of the build. There are lot to be found on the www.

I’ll just share my experience.**

NOt to take anything away from Axial and alike, but this a different ballgame. The price difference is feld in every part. This assembles itself. Fitment of the metal parts is top. except when screwing into plastic the hexbolts can be fitted with a hexbit without grip.

Axles feel solid and run very smooth.

Chassis rails are nearly twice the height of the Axial version (my only reference) Plastic braces are big, lumpy and stiffen everything up big time.

The transmission feels massive and almost snaps together. It runs smooth as butter in spite of the many gears.

I haven’t received my motor and ESC yet. So 5yr old parts from a deceased Wraith will have to do for now. A €30 Hobbyking ESC and the motor that has been soldered internally.**

It doesn't compliment the first driving experience.

It seems kind of complicated to find a reasonably priced sensored, 4s capable ESC. After another ‘okay then…’ I ordered a Mamba X. (the trailmaster is for another build)

Congratulations.

I am loving my recently purchase Axial SCX 10.3, so much so that the VS4-10 pro is not far behind. I mean, now that I'm hooked, gotta have a state of the art non portal set-up, right?

Congrats on biting the bullet!"thumbsup"

The PRO is an excellent choice and you should not be disappointed!

These are great kits and as you have found out, these practically just fall together. The design and craftsmanship is top notch!

Looking forward to seeing it in it it's finished form!

Weather is great so painting outside.

Lexan is thick and sturdy. Haven't decided the color so the Chocolate easter-eggs are there for inspiration. The eggs desided on aubergine and pink. Now some fideling with stickers and where done with the following-the-manual.

Oh, the trashcan motor looks revived when paired with the mamba X. Runs fine but makes a hell of a noise. New brushless on its way.

Plans to be executed: diver, upgraded electronics, lights, winch, rollbar and everything I haven't thought of yet

Update 1: rollbar

The has a rollbar fitted. Someone called Harley stole my idea and beat me to the execution. Well, I stole his MO.

Spotlights can be added. Don't know which nor how to power them yet.

driver

I debated with my daughter and she thinks it's okay for this car to have a lady behind the wheel. Sooo.

Feels weird fitting up a little lady like this but she's in.

Hope she stays seated. It's not the easiest interior to remove. (Door handles are a pain)

electronics preparation

This felt like a rig that deserves a decent wiring job aswell. Therefor the components need to be securely placed

Got the plan to place the main electronics on the sliders.

Donated myself a youtube-crash course Fusion 360; let’s roll!

Battery on the left, ESC and radiobox on the right.

Well the first try at printing the ESC\radiobox prototype in ABS was kind of a let down.

And since I don’t know yet how to make a waterproof radiobox pass trough. I tried my luck onthe battery tray (out of PLA+)

ended up with this contraption. without the bracket a full size 5000mAh will fit. WIth the bracket as short 2200mAh 3 or 4s will stay put.*

Looks great!! I agree it's a kit that stands above the rest, and good work on the roll bar. I really like the battery tray, and might borrow the design if you choose to post it to thingiverse.

Sharing it was my plan. I'll wait till I've updated the ESC/radio tray and upload them both.

Alternative headlights. (Xenon look-a-like).
4 LEDs per unit. That will be a big tie-in.

Sure did. Just a prototype for fitment. Happen to have paint at hand so.. pssssht; black'n'silver!

Need to create a clamp for the LEDs.
And, yes, they'll end up at thingy I asume.
