I have a bunch of those yellow/gold ebay 2212 1000kv motors. I think they are the cheapest things you can buy that actually spins. Anyway, I reversed the shaft and stuck a 26 tooth pinion on there and stuck it in a trail truck coupled with an ESC that can be built for around 5 dollars too.

For a 10 dollar motor/esc solution it works really well, low end control is great. Best kept on 4-6s though and then you still get the wheel speed and low end torque. It held up fine for the day of me and my kids playing with it but we swapped it back to a 2300kv for more wheel speed at the en of the day. We really didn't notice much difference in real world driving between that and the Tenshock 906 1250kv.

check it out!

edit: i just checked ebay and this motor is actually $3.90 !

That looked like an airplane esc. What did you do to get rev and does it have drag brake?

The esc is one of my own home made creations . It works for brushed or brushless motors drag brake or freewheel. You can find schematics and source files for a bunch of ESC's here.https://www.rcgroups.com/forums/member.php?u=696658
The firmware will work on a number of commercial esc's with a little tweaking.
