3D Printers and Printing

I just pulled the trigger on a Ender 3 Pro and it should be here by the end of the week, I been collecting .STL files and want to print some of them

That's awesome!!!

Yup, I pulled the trigger on a Creality CR10, should be here on Wednesday. "thumbsup"

I almost bought Anet A8 but they don't come with aluminum frames and its another $100 for the precut extruded aluminum frame rails and you need to buy or print the connectors and the Ender 3 Pro is a better deal

after ordering a Ender 3 Pro and its been shipped, I seen this Snapmaker machine on Kick Starter, that does all 3 functions and could of waited 6 months to a 1 year before, the cheaper priced clones, hit the market, D' oh !

That is the problem with this stuff, 3D technology is advancing so quickly you don't want to jump in too soon and get something that is obsolete when it comes out of the package.

But, you have to jump in somewhere. If nothing else, get what you get, learn, and in a year or two upgrade to the latest hotness.

I know the CR10 is not the latest and greatest, but it has been proven to be reliable, easy to set up, and there is a giant knowledge pool to draw from. Immediate upgrade items are to print off a couple of wire guilds for the heated bed and a couple of knobs for filament advancing and bed leveling. After that there are a couple of good-to-have add-ons like an auto bed leveler. I was looking at a couple of Creality's more recent offerings, but they have had issues, and the fixes start with a firmware update and lots of tweaks and geeks to the settings and the machine itself.

Hells yeah....

Make sure you update the firmware and make sure that thermal runaway protection is enabled. Loads of videos on YouTube showing how.

I think I have a addiction or I do things back wards, I was advised to buy a small 3d printer and get familiar with printing and the software and then step up to a bigger printer, when looking for a small printer, in my previous post I bought a new Ender 3 Pro, that's in shipping and tonight I found a Open Box SooWay SW 200T with a 180x180x180mm heated print bed, so that's 2 in 10 days, Hello my name is Bob, (not my real name) welcome Bob to 3D Printer Anonyms, anybody want to sponsor me

Great advice.

I have been hitting You Tube are for 3D printing content, this morning I ran across a great video about setting up the CR10 and slicers:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9eRdVaHdjkc

I think I am going to bight the bullet and go ahead and buy Simplify 3D, it looks far superior to Cura, and other than the $149 price, there is no down side I can see. Are there any other slicers that are worth a look?

My name is Scott, and yes, that is my for-reals name, and its my thread, soooo I have first dibs on any sponsorship. "thumbsup"

By sponsor I meant someone to of knock the credit card out my hand and remind me, I had one printer in shipping, I really didn't need a second one, the Ender 3 Pro was a educated purchase, I watched Utube videos and read reviews and looked at upgrades and what other people have done, the SOOWAY SW-200 which looks like a clone of a Ender 2 was a total impulse buy, and there is not a lot info on it, it might not be that bad

Well, had two minor issues getting the printer set up, both were fairly easy to solve and the printer is up and running. For my first print I printed the classic Benchy....

A fuzzy picture of it set up...

Even through easy of set up and print quality are two of the key selling points for this printed, the print quality is impressive. I am really looking forward to seeing what I can do with it.

Overall the instructions weren't terrible, they just kind of dropped off when you got to the point of actually printing. Luckily, there are lots of great tutorials on You Tube.

Problems:
1. When I sent the printer home for bed leveling the Z-Axis motor chattered like made when it went all of the way down. The obvious issue is that the Z limit switch was not working properly. This is installed when the printer was put together, and there are no instructions on how to align it correctly. Breaking out the wrenches I adjusted it, sent the print head home and it worked like a charm.
2. I had an issue with Cura, it would not slice any file and it would not save. Did some quick digging and found all kinds of fixes, from turning off AV and fire walls, reinstalling, to checking the dates on individual DLL files. I took a leap and just decided to close the program and open it back up as an admin. "POOF"... It worked.

No, I have not updated the firmware yet. I puked in my mouth a little when I researched what needed to be done to get it updated. That might be a project for a later time. Right now it is working. I am hoping/thinking that it has the current firmware on it, but I need to verify with Creality's website. There are a good number of upgrades on this machine that I thought I would have to print out and install.

So, now I am excited to do my next print, and doubly motivated to learn Fusion 360.

That's why I stay away from Creality printers ... selling a printer without bootloader and security features active on the firmware is a no-go.

For all of the research I did, somehow I missed how annoying updating the firmware on this machine is. But, i think I would have bought it knowing it has no boot loader.

There are a couple of upgrades I plan on doing, and I will have to update/upgrade the firmware to get those done. ( Auto bed leveling and 2nd Z-axis motor and worm gear)

Update your CR10S to Marlin 1.1.9 to enable mesh bed levelling, thermal protection, better menu layout and power resume.

I will have to do that...

One problem I am having is with over-adhesion. My parts are getting fused with the tape on the heated bed. I have decreased the extruder temp, and that has helped, but it is still a problem. I am wondering if I should get rid of the tape and just go to glue...

Use the TH3D guides on installing the bootloader and installing the TH3D unified firmware, it is Marlin 1.1.9 that is preconfigured for a variety of Creality printers.

I installed the bootloader and firmware on my CR-10 mini with a $12 Arduino board kit from Amazon and no knowledge beyond the TH3D videos.

DAMMIT.... Where in the hell did that 'LIKE' button go?!?

Excellent information guys, many thanks!!! I am going to be putting in an Amazon order for some filament this week, I'll throw an Arduino board kit in.

Other than Thingiverse, what are some other sites to get files from?

What temps you running when it does that? ... Bed and Extruder?

Ive got my Anet printing straight on blue painters tape with no glue now and my Ender3 with no hair spray or glue on a Ender matte.

Thats what Im running on my Ender3 knock off that had a genuine Creative board. Complete rebuild and even swapped out my control board with better one. Teaching Tech on YouTube was a big help for me, expecially setting up my BLTouch. Printer works flawless now.

Also in my opinion BLTouch > Inductive sensor for leveling, well worth it for mesh leveling.

Right now I am at 200/50, and prints are still sticking, but they are not completely embedded into the tape. But, it could be better. I am thinking I will try to blue painter's tape before I try the glue, the blue is a lot smoother.

For a test print I use the print for the filament advancement knob, it is very quick to slice and prints in about 20 minutes.

I am placing an order this week for some Matter Hackers PLA, and I'll throw an Arduino board in.
