With the new body rules for 2.2S, I thought I'd try out a mini body to see how it looks. Body is 8.5" long, 3.25" wide and 3" high including chassis. It's a TA body for the 18T and certainly a cheap option at $10

Personally, I'm all for the more relaxed rules for body dimensions, but it's going to take a while to get used to the new look. It's rather cartoonish.

Certainly doesn't look to have a 1" hood/roof seperation.

Rules have been clarified for 2.2S measurements, so that body and chassis together are used for the 8x3x3 measurement.

▪ 2.5.6 - Bodied Vehicles only, typically a lexan body that is removable from chassis. Bodiless vehicles are prohibited. Bodies must be of original width and resemble a 1:1 vehicle with cab, door, and hood panels. Vehicle chassis with body measurements must be 8" overall length, 3" overall width, and 3" overall height.

Certainly doesn't look to have a 1" hood/roof seperation.

I don't see where it says Body's must have that separation.

Correct, the 1" roof over hood measurement is for all vehicles regardless of body/bodiless style.

But the 2.1.5 rule clearly state roof over chassis! The hood isn't mentioned other than that it must exist.
With a body the hood can be located above or below the chassis. Even on a bodiless design the hood can be placed underneath some chassis beam.

Yes, it is a bit contradictory. I think the 2.1.5 rule was originally designed for bodiless.

Measured vertically from where the hood intersects the cab. Therefore, roof measurement is in relation to the hood, which on a bodiless is also the chassis.

The Mini E-Revo VW Beetle body meets it just barely. However it is discontinued. I've still been able to score a few but the supply is dwindling.

Yeah, finding a mini body that meets ALL the requirements is turning out to be a bit of a challenge. I've got a couple more coming and will check Brian's Derringer, but I have to find something soon...trial and error fitting isn't quite cutting it.

I wouldn't be surprised to see most of the Sporty drivers sticking with the XCiter.

I am building a rig now and just want to clarify, The body requirerments for bodyless chassis have been removed? so, you no longer need a hood, roof or side panels on bodyless rigs? can i run my chassis without any skins as long as it meets the minimum dimensions? just want to get it right the first time. also when do the rules go into effect?

From what I recall the only change was side panels is no longer are a requirement. Hood & roof are still a requirement.
I can't find anything in the usrcca rules about the removal of side panels requirement.

I still think side panels help with sliding around jaggies and certainly a covered roof slides a lot better when trying to upright your truck. Personally, for the little extra weight the panels are, I'll keep 'em mounted. They also add some much-needed color to the truck.

thanks for the advice. i made some side panels already so i will be running them. It is nice to have a consensus on the rules as they read. it nice to have an option!
