2.2 Comp Tire Reviews

What foams do you have in those Rovers they look really narrow and tall compared to the set I have??

I'm going to get the RoK Lox's Tested first here on my Test Rocks. I'm also going to get the Rovers and Panthers set up the way I want them. If I have time. I will film and review them as well on the Test Rocks. today... It will be cutting it close.

I got the Rovers and Panthers all mounted and ready to work. The Temp Dropped big time today. So the Firm/Firm wasn't going to work.

Panthers Firm outers and Med Inners
Rovers Med outers and Firm Inners

Temp should be the high 70's low 80's, but will be in and out of the Shade.

Got the 2.2 Rok Lox's Tested as much as I'm going to do till my Scalers done. Over all they did pretty well for what they are. I was able to pull all the Ledges just as easy as other Comp Tires, but on Off Camber spots when I needed to turn. They Tracked funny. Under Cut's not so well either.. Instead of pulling over the under cut. They would go under. Other then those few spots, they did well. I'll get these down to the Creek bed with the Panthers and Rovers when the weather gets better.

If your Looking for the Most Scale looking Tires in the Size Range. These are it.. They also don't limit the Capability of the rig as much as other scale tires.

Video is being Edited now.. Will post Late tonight with Video and More detailed info on the tires.

this is going to be a great thread, thanks run2jeepn"thumbsup"
I was liking the review on X-Locks -vs- Chisels......i was thinking on getting Chisels, thinking on X-locks now8)
Rovers and Panthers should be good one to see"thumbsup"

Thanks, The Rovers and Panthers will be lot closer and Harder to test.. There will be a lot more Video and time involved on testing these.

If anyone has a Good set up for the Chisels and has a couple of Comp Wins with them. Let me know by either PM or here. So I can give these things another shot.

I had a win or 2 with the chisels. I used stock foam with half a panther memory foam on the outside of them. Worked really well. That was on a 1.25" wheel."thumbsup"

Rc4wd 2.2 Rok Lox’s (Scale Iroks)

5.5in Tall, 1-3/4in Wide
Foams: Stock Foams.

Beadlocks: JConcepts
Weight: 16oz front and 14oz rear
Points based on 1-10.. 10 being best
Ledges: 6
OffCamber:6
Scale Looks: 9.5
Slick Rock: Untested
Dirt: 7

Tires were not broke in, Cleaned, or roughed up... Brand new straight from the package...

I’ll get some more testing done. It’s been raining or to Clod for good testing. The Slick rock area I always test in. Is under water right now. In a few days it should be dried up.

The down and dirty..... These didn’t react like a Comp Tire. Which I already knew before even testing them. My plan here was to give you good base on before buying them. What you can aspect to see? I tested this on my test Rocks. The same rocks and same spots as the above X-Locks and Chisels. Watch the other Videos and Compare if you wish. These tires will need a Tall soft foam with a little side wall support but not to much. The Carcass of these tires is thicker then the X-Locks and other Comp tires. So they have more support. The Tread pattern and amount of tread stiffens them as well. The Pro-Line 2 Stage would be a great starting point for these. IMO.. But have not tested it.

Now a few things I did notice on these. The Forward bite wasn’t the greatest, but the compound picked up from there and let them keep going. They’d slip and hop some, but if I kept in the throttle a little they go ahead and climb. The Rok Lox’s have a very hard side bit. Right where the tread stops and the side wall starts. Once the weight of the rig sits on that. It digs in. So in off camber spots near under cuts. They wanted to dig under instead of pulling out of them. I was really surprised on this matter. Due to their size. A Softer foam may prevent that.

Over All... For a Comp Tire 3 out of 10.. Mainly for Compound and Size. For a Scale Tire.9.5 out of 10... Rc4wd Nailed the 1:1 Iroks Scale look for sure. It’s a great looking scale tire.
Video... Slick Rock test should be done Monday or Tuesday.

Shot 38 Short Vids of the Rovers and Panthers today on the Test Rocks. Still need to test them down at the Creek Bed area... Both performed very well, Panthers did a few things easier, but the Rovers did as well... More Later...

The Rovers and Panthers were very close in almost everything. I ran each tire on every rock I have ran all the others. This way it helps me compare them better. As you can see I rated them almost the Same. The Rovers and Panthers pretty much made everything. The Rovers tended to need more wheel Speed, but were very controllable, with little to no bouncing. With the Panthers I was able to keep the speed down and get more technical if I needed to. I believe the Panthers Compound gives better Traction then the Rovers, but it’s very close. On Forward Bite: The Panthers and Rovers did about the same for me. The Panthers barely won here.

The crwler1 foams seem to do very well. Matter of fact I’ll be testing them in the X-Locks and If they do as well as they did today. They will be the foams I run all summer. From the testing these last couple of days. If you don’t glue or Tape the foams together they may shift on you. A few pieces of Tape on the sides connecting them both may help here. Also having the outer Foams softer allowed them to push more against the firmer inner foams. Which resulted in less shifting.

Over all for me the Panthers beat the Rovers, but just barely... Like I said, each tire made the other one look worse. One time or another. It’s just the Panthers did it more often.

Average Scores so far:

Chisels: 7.75
X-Locks: 8.25
Rovers: 7.8
Panthers: 8.1

As you can see the Chisels and Rovers are very Close. The Panthers and X-Locks are very close as well. The Rovers pull ahead of the Chisels for there Slick rock performance. The X-Locks just barely pull ahead of the Panthers. Due to the extra height and the less wheel speed needed on the Slick rocks.

So Far the X-Locks are only winning by .15... The Panthers and X-Locks seem to be able to pull all the same lines in all the same ways. There was one line the Panthers took 7-8 trys to make. The X-Locks made it in 2. Between that and the extra height is what pulled them up front by .15.... The Next round may bring different results.
