1955 Willy's Pickup scratch built Class 3 for 2017

Looks awesome! I like what you did with that bed. I have a Willy's cab and a Wagon I'll get around to one of these years

x2 on bondo brand. just apply thin coats at a time. this is a pretty cool class 3. I might have to replicate the scorpion crawler for class 3. giving me some 2018 inspiration here!

this is fantastic. The tube-work looks legit! Also seems like it works as good as it looks too.

Do yourself a favor though, throw that green stuff away. Even the Bondo brand two part you can get in the tube at Autozone is easier to work with and holds up eleventy-billion times better than that stuff. your styrene work loos awesome, you owe yourself the pleasure of using some decent filler on there.

Duck tape. Attach the windshield with duck tape. The rest of the truck looks so dang nice. What's a little duck tape?

Great looking build!

Thanks for the complements and advice guys!!

The fabrication side is old hat to me now. It's only my second attempt at a custom styrene body and my first scratch built.

I can agree that the modeling fillers haven't been the best. I've had decent luck with the green so far. I started with tamiya white putty and have had some of it crack off. I'll probably drive the rig in primer for a little while and see how it holds up before final paint.

Thanks to Eddie getting stuff shipped out so fast my foams arrived.

I got the rear tires mounted up on the trail ready wheels. Running 5.5 narrow comp cut with soft up front and med in rear. I can't wait for spring and testing these on the rocks we Comp on. If not, the pitbull growlers are sitting in a bag waiting.

Man they are skinny. But it does mean more ground pressure.

Is this build still going on?

Yes it is....and dang it's been a long time since I updated.

I had some issues with the tamiya white putty cracking (just like I was warned of). Bought some bondo filler and that's worked much better.

I threw some paint down just to see if I liked it. Not super thrilled with my selections. May go a different route.

Next thing I started was the interior. I decided to do more of a 3/4 as I really want the battery low on the drivers side. It takes up a decent amount of space so I made a "floor" pan. I'll tuck the battery under it.

Started cutting up wild Willy to fit.

We had a small indoor comp last weekend. Since she's mechanically sound I took her out for a run with the body installed. She smoked the competition and didn't even come home with a scratch.

Cut and shut treps are gripping really nice

The interior is the remaining thing. Plus getting the winch wired up. Then pull it apart for paint and re assembly.

Working on a few things for this.

I was going to make the door hinge but I figured having the door inset and magnetized to the frame would be easier.

Needed to make the door look like he real thing though.
