1.9 U4/KOH build "SCROTAMUS" the scrap yard racer

I absolutely love U4/KOH.
This event has been extremely fun running closed courses locally. I've been running 2.2 straight axle.
But now I really think it's time for a 1.9 straight axle rig as well!

i rounded up a pile of parts in the RC room to throw together and hopefully have a strong competitor.

I'm starting with a custom set of steel frame rails and mating those to a 1/12 HPI Trophy truck cage. I would normally braze my own cage but I've had this cage sitting around forever and I like the look of them.

Custom panels

Custom brazed 3/16 CHROMOLY shock towers F/R as well as CHROMO bumpers

Also using built Dlux SCX10 housings with the bigger bearing.
These are built XR10 width with HD gears Incision spools. Also VP clamping CHUBBIES and scale knuckles.

Built VP TRANS w/BWD motor plate.

I'll be using talking arms front and rear with KING shocks from the Bomber.

I'm using Methods with POISON SPYDER rings and CI foams and the 1.9 COMPASS balloons for tires!!!

Just out of curiosity has anyone tried this with brass bushings? Would it be effective to help with knuckle bearing life? I've seen them used on pinion gear for diffs but haven't seen them used on outer knuckle. ...

Thoughts? ?

as far as the bushing goes, I did use them in the outer knuckles before and they seemed to wear out very fast...I had better life with bearings that were shimmed to remove the play..

Fabbing up front tower up with 4130 Chromoly tubing.
Started with a cross tube and shock tabs and bracing. 2 aluminum plates that bolt to the chassis.

Had to run shock tower pretty far back so I can run trailing arms up front. i will need to finish more diagonal braces on the cross tube that will bolt to the chassis and stiffen up the tower.

Having alot of fun with this build!!!

Updates! Built some trailing arms from 4130 tube 3/16 and 1/4.....inserted and brazed then threaded!

I'm trying to utilize as much of the stock HPI TT cage as possible. and IM TOO LAZY FOR TUBE WORK AT THE MOMENT... Almost done with this rig, front and rear figured out.

Threw it together this morn to see how it all looked. Im pretty happy with it. It crawls just like my TH with the sway bar in the rear but im pretty sure it is going to freaking spank my TH on the U4 course. :twisted:"thumbsup"

It handles really well with the XR width front and stock width rear.
