Hobbywing Xerun AXE

A Mamba X and a good motor combo are over $250.

4S on a scaler still cracks me up. Scale trucks don't jump up rocks.

Slate combo is $210 on amain.

I like power. Most of my trucks are geared low because it gets hot as balls here, so 4s really isn't crazy fast. Well, except 2nd gear in the trx4. That's just stupid fast for a scale but it's fun.

I said good motor...

I like to crawl rocks in a scale fashion. I don't like to jump up rocks like the comp guys. I do like some wheel speed in reserve though.

There's no reason you can't do all of this with 3s.

Have you tried the Slate motors? Definitely not as strong as my Holmes PP but they are torquey and smooth with that latest firmware on the Mamba X.

Also, Slate and MicroX combo for $150 if you want to stick with 3s or less like this HW.

You know you can adjust the gearing as needed, sometimes the extra power is a big advantage. I would never consider running 2s again, but many of my trucks are not much faster than guys running a brushed 2s system.

Sure I can do it on 3S, but 2S works for me so I don't see the need to buy 3S batteries.

When I said "good motors" I meant the higher end motors like HH, Team Brood, Tekin ROC412, etc.

But for the record, no, I haven't tried a Slate motor.

Obviously you can gear down - to a certain extent. I just don't understand why I'd overpower and then gear down when I get enough torque and wheel speed for my needs with 2S. Maybe I'll have to try it to understand it.

It's more efficient, and it runs cooler. More amps < more voltage, because amps = heat.

Evidently, telling people to volt up and gear down for over a decade still isn’t long enough. It reaps so many advantages in electrical systems

You ever thought that you could try stuff before you say it isn't good? The Slate motors don't have the power of the Roc 412s or Puller Pros, but for a 1.9 rig, they are great and priced very well. I'm very happy with mine.

I've read it many times. But my electronics never get more than warm, I have enough power for my use, and my batteries last hours. What other benefits would I reap?

less waste heat at the same wheel torque and power, better startup, better drag brake, higher peak torque, more consistent vehicle during load changes and incline changes.

At what point does it stop to be beneficial to volt up and gear down, though? I guess one limit is that at some point you'd need additional gears for reduction. Another that more cells need more space and add weight. Is 4S the sweet spot for crawling (scale 1.9)?

Higher voltage = less amp draw, that inturn means you can run smaller cells.

if the watt/hour of the pack is the same then you're good.
