GT3B Hack Question and Answer Thread

I'm building a vehicle that will have the doors open and shut via my hacked GT3B and a 6 channel receiver with individual servos on channels 3 and 4.
Is there a way to program these as one touch rather than having to hold the button down? Meaning one click fully opens one door, another click of the same button fully shuts.
I've followed the instructions and was able to hook up a winch (on another vehicle) fine but honestly I get lost when trying to program it on my own.
Thanks!

There are only 3 channel, 6 channel, and, 8 channel receivers that are compatible with this radio. Any of the available 6 channel receivers listed on the first page should work the same

Yes.

What button and channel are you trying to program it to?

Amazing...thanks for sharing this vid...very detailed

Sure thing"thumbsup", It's a little long but I figured all the extra commentary and no fast forwarding was worth it.

Hey. Me again. So I finally got my GT3C (ended up getting orange instead of black, whatever tho) and I popped it open and hacked it. While I was in there i noticed that the RF module has a 5V, ground, and PPM pin. That is all my DTF UHF OpenLRS needs. Can I just parallel it off of that? Anyone know?

I was also kinda thinking of taking the module off and reattaching all the pins to the stock 2.4ghz RF module except putting in a SPDT switch from the 5V to both of the modules. That way I can use my external LRS JR module whenever I want but also retain the stock 2.4ghz RF for when I wanna use Flysky's RX's in other vehicles. Also then I won't be transmitting on 433mhz and 2.4ghz at the same time...anyone have any thoughts on that?

Hello all I really need help. I got all the wires soldered up and i backed up the stock firmware. Now when i try to flash the new 6.1 firmware i keep getting this error

Error : FILE : line 5: Not in Motorola S19 format!
Error : < File loading failed.

Anybody know how to fix this?

G'day long time reader, first time poster,

I got my GT3C hack kit from overkill, I have managed to set it up and flash the configuration, and all the functions seem available as per the instructions.
I am planning/trying to set up

CH1 "steering"
CH2 "throttle"
CH3 "CH3 button" to shift a 2 speed trans so switch between -100 and 100 on push
CH4 "CH3 Trim" to run a winch in and out as a 3 position switch.

I am pretty sure I have found the instructions to do all of these things with out issue, the problem I am having is that I seem to be able to set the number of channels to be 6 ( as I have a 6 channel receiver). Then when I scroll to set the channel for a function key I only get CH3 as an option. All the instructions say select CHx (3,4,5,6 etc) I don't seem to get this option just CH3 then DIG 4WS etc. Thoughts??

When using the standard setting on "CH3 button" the display tells me I am going from -100 to 100 when pressed but I cant get the servo to move.??

I have tried reflashing the card but am getting the same result. I couldn't find either of these issues in the thread so far. Thanks in advance for your response

Cheers

Ross

Thanks for detailed question, I do appreciate it.

To add more channels to your model go to the
long-ETER NAME menu,
Scroll to C, press enter
Scroll to 6, Press and hold enter
Press back/end afew times.

This can be found in this manual
http://overkillrc.com/GT3X-Firmware/0-6-1/MANUAL-0.6.1.txt

And here's the specific lines
Code:
Standard menu:
==============
-
-
-
-
-
-
- Model number of channels and Model reset
    > choose menu NAME and press ENTER-long
    > menu NAME will blink
    > choose "C" for number of model channels or "r" for model reset
	- reset will show NO/YES

For your current channel 3 issues. Have you checked to make sure the servo works? Also, are you sure you chose "C" as the button? ("3" is the channel 3 trim)

make sure the firmware file you are loading in has the .s19 extension

I actually got it to work I downloaded the one you have linked in this thread and it worked with no problem. Every other one i tried even the one directly from github i kept getting the error. And now its all working just fine. Thxs

Thanks Losikid,

My bad I was setting something else as C 6 under the main menu, misread the important bit "NAME". So once I set it from there all the channels showed up, all good.

CH3 switch issue - Servo was in fact toasted- worked last time I had it going go figure. Works just fine with different servo.
Getting the winch controller working on Ch4 just required tuning the trim down to about 70% until the ESC responded and self calibrated, now it is perfect. Winch in and out on CH3 Trim switch.

Thanks for your help am really looking forward to using this in anger, will probably even look at running a lights on and off as well on Ch 5.

Thanks

Ross

Also. I would recommend turning the trim back to zero and calibrating the esc to that. (You can click the switch one way or the other to get to an endpoint to calibrate)

If for some reason you can't calibrate the esc, then turn trim back down to 0 and use sub-trim to correct the center. Sub-Trim is for long term center adjustments.

Is anyone selling these radios ready to go and already hacked? I tried following links in the thread but they all come up as page not found. I understand the hack is fairly easy, however my issue is lack of time plus I believe in paying people to do things I am not able/willing to learn. So any current links or if anyone has one for sale please let me know.
