GT3B Hack Question and Answer Thread

Just finished the hack on a Turnigy GTX3, did not realize how much of a clone it was until I opened up and the boards are still labeled FLYSKY. Is there a receiver out there that will accept more the 6.5 for this radio? I'm getting really tired of dual BEC and bypassing the receiver to run the steering servo at 7.2

RX's

Fly Sky FS-GR3C/E/F 2.4GHz Automatic Frequency Hopping Digital System 3 Channel Receiver

FlySky 2.4G 6-Channel Receiver (R6B) for FlySky flight systems

FlySky 2.4G 8 CHANNEL AFHDS RECEIVER

Considering how cheap they are just buy 2 or more and run the voltage you want. If it fries swap to the backup and run less voltage through it. Mine have been fine with 7.4 volts through them.

Why is the max receiver voltage even an issue?
It is very easy to wire it so that the receiver gets the ESC's built in BEC power (usually 6 volts) and you can send a higher voltage from your external BEC to your steering servo.

It's really not a lot more effort than it takes to add a BEC so why not wire it (properly! - yes, that's my opinion - you might not agree) like I show?

I see no point in needing to run higher voltage through the rx unless you are running nitro and want to use a lipo/life to power everything and don't want to fork out for a bec.

I don't either IMO. The only reason I do is because of my older HeyOk controller doesn't like being run with separate power I'm told. Is rather not take the chance, but that has to be an extremely rare case. I don't see cost being an excuse because they are well worth the $20 or less for what you get.

Thanks for the input, I guess will have to go add a BEC to the cars. I have tried running the fly-sky receivers at 7.2 and the do work for a while until I hit something wrong, and start maxing out the servo. I have blown 2 receivers up this way, ya they are cheap but i get tired of waiting on the UPS man.

Were you using the gr3f? This is the specific model that hobbypartz claims can handle 8.4 volts. All the other models they claim at 6.5 volts.

maxing out a servo shouldn't affect the voltage a rx can handle. The the power pins inside the rx are on the same bus(wire). The amperage goes in and right back out, it doesn't have to flow through the rx components.

And a esc built in bec is more than enough to power an rx. Then use the bec to power the servo. You don't need two becs.

This is likely a dumb question but I'm at a loss at how to reassign the dual rate switch to operate my winch on ch.3
I read through the firmware manual but didn't find the answer.

Is it possible to set the end points for the ch3 button. I have tried the following:
Long press Rev
Scroll to C
CH3
MO0
RE0
PV0

When I press the CH3 button it jumps from -100 to 100.
Can I change this to something like -10 to 30?

Thanks

Yes, in the regular end points menu

Alrighty, I received a gt3c in trade and was told it's hacked. I'd like to run a winch using the 3rd channel but I don't want to buy it until I know this radio is ready for it. How do I know it's hacked?

Thanks
