Chevy Crewcab Dually Build

Hi everyone! I'm a newbie to the forum. I am not new to RC but I am new to building custom RC's. I have built custom trucks and custom bikes in real life. Now I have been driving a truck, over the road, for the last 17 years. I still do which will make this build go in spurts and stops. Next week I will pick up all of the stuff I have ordered so far. There's the problem though. I can order what I know I need, but then I have to wait until I get home to get the stuff. So, this is the beginning... First off, my inspiration for this is Bulldogs blue F350 Dually :ror:. He did an amazing job! I however, am not a Ford fan. I was born and raised CHEVY! So, as I browsed through the forum, I found a Chevy Crewcab Dually body built by krazykrawler, and then purchased by fr8cture. I managed to get it! The build thread for the body build is, http://www.rccrawler.com/forum/paint-body/467159-chevy-dually-3-3-a.html I plan on pulling a Gooseneck or maybe a fifth wheel trailer with my Wraith on it.

So now I have a body! In the research that I did, and with the intent of keeping this build as true to scale as possible, this is what I'm starting with...

Chassis:
GCM Racing 21" 4TEN leaf spring chassis
Tamiya Highlift springs
RC4WD Trex plastic axles
Will have dual shocks all the way around

Drivetrain:
Stock Axial SCX10 Tranny
I could use some suggestions on gearing and a motor!

Tires & Wheels:
RC4WD IROK 1.7's (This may change later to 1.9. I can't find any 1.9 rims!)
Sloted rear 1.7 Semi rims

Body:
Custom made Chevy Crewcab Dually
Custom grill from Germany
Emblem's from MTHead :ror:
Hoping for a custom Visor from CaptainScale!:ror:
Looking for a painter for the body! I'm planning a really cool paint scheme!

So thanks for looking! I will get busy as soon as I get this stuff picked up with pics!

I don't mind if anyone offers suggestions or opinions. We all have our own. I will listen!

Those are 1.7". I haven't been able to find any 1.9's.

I bought a chassis kit from GCM Racing, out of Canada. The kit includes the tranny mount and transfer case. The pic you see is off of their page, not the one that I actually have. If you look around on their site, I believe the sell the tranny mount for the SCX10. Here is the link for the chassis kit. http://gcmracing.ca/viewitem.php?productid=47

The GCM parts are really sharp. I just got a skeleton chassis for a build and it's amazingly clean. Definitely a fan of the GCM engineering that Chris has done. 8)

Ok so I finally got home and unwrapped the goodies! And so it starts! I got the chassis put together. I really like this GCM Racing chassis! Very easy! Had to through a pic of my Wraith in too sense I've been customizing it at the same time!

Ok, got a little more done today. I got driveshafts built although I'm going to have to get another one for the rear. It works but it looks horrible! I also got the hubs cut. I had to lengthen the rears, and remove the fronts. I also go the tranny built and installed. The GCM chassis kit uses an Axial SCX10 stock tranny. Very easy install! That's about it. I took it down to the local hobby shop to try to find a couple of small things. There must have been 15 people standing around this chassis! They were all in awe. Not even the guys that work there have ever seen anything like it. Of course sitting there with a set of big duallies on it helped too!

The only thing that is tough is the width of the rear tires. These dually builds are a big bag of tricks. If you're not going for super scale, it's just fine. Sucking them in with the GCM chassis, the axles and wheels would be near impossible. It will be large and in charge though!"thumbsup"

Oh yes! It is extremely well made! I like it a lot.

Yah, I've been looking at that. Your right, I don't see any possible way to do it. I think I'm going to put a set of the Clodbuster fender flares on it. That will help and make it look even tougher, in my opinion.

I didn't get the wheels with the body. I swiped that picture from the guy I bought the body from. He had already sold them.

I really like the look of that! I'm just a 4x4 fan, especially when it comes to RC.
