Losi 1/10th Roller

Ran around a little bit with a 35T Warrior, 3 cell with Mamba. Nothing got too hot, but I kept everything to short bursts of speed. May throw in an old 27T stock motor to break in the drivetrain.

Good to hear. Monday when mine gets here I plan on using a drill to loosen everything up, then run a 27T stock motor while I wait on a good 35T to come in.

Put on my VP DH rims. On the front, you have to run at least the middle width spacers. The Berg spacers make the inner ring run on the steering rod ends. On the back, I left the Berg width spacers in.

On the back, the Berg spacers bring the VP wheels to about 1/8" narrower than the stock Losi rims.

On the front, the .335 spacers make the front about even, maybe 1/16" wider than stock Losi rims.

I will be using widest offset hubs in front and middle in rear, so the rig should be about 1/8" wider than stock.

The stock Losi rims/tire/foam weighs in at 5.25 oz each. A VP DH with no weights, stock Losi tire/foam comes in at 8.50 oz. I am running 4 weights in each front rim, nothing in the backs. That brings front tire/rim combo to 12.5 oz each and the rears to 8.5 oz each. Seems like a decent place to start.

Sweet, thanks for this! I was wondering how things would shake out with VP wheels. I have the widest spacers up front, and the shortest ones out back on the axial rig... which those wheels and tires are moving over to the Losi.

been thru all my rims and dont like the fit on any, spaced and unspaced. The hubs on the rig are nice but not very thick. Hurry up aftermarket guys, what are yall waiting on???

Rich, this has probably already been asked and answered but 1530+ post is a lot of reading/searching. When is the Losi aftermaket parts(aluminum goodies) gonna be available. This roller kit builds so fast I am already to add goodies to it. Love to tinker:)8)

I received confirmation that I should have the parts by Tuesday. I'll need to check them first and if they check out good, they should be in stock at Horizon no later than this Friday.

Nice, any plans on the the rear axle straight adapter did not see it listed on Horizon?
EDIT: Doh!!! I went back and looked. Did not have a pic so I overlooked it

Also curious to see everyones total rig weight. I'm at something like 5lbs 4 oz. with 6-1/2 ounces added to the front tires. Bout 2lbs lighter than any other rig I've had/got...

I told myself I was not going to buy one. I stopped at the LHS and they had one left. No self control so now I have my first 2.2 crawler. Hope I like it!

My 21.5 novak is getting really hot also. I'm running a 15t pinion and was afraid the motor was going to smoke it was getting so hot. I also noticed the axles where getting warm where the worm gears are. Not so happy with this after all the waiting:cry:

maybe???

Im going to run a fxr and either a hh35t or tekin 35t. maybe try runnin' a 35t as well and lube the axles with something friendly. i get mine thursday. so i cant say my opinion 4 sure till then. just my 2 cents.

running it in or breaking it in with your old slash motor and esc is highly advisable, after break in then stick your good stuff and roll. I broke mine in with a brushless 17.5. Changed it out this morning and now running a mm with a holmes crawlmaster and after seteing the slipper clutch this bitch got serious real quickly. just my experience, but the more I tinker the better it gets.

I pulled the motor and spun the main gear and everything feels like silk. Cant feel any drag at all out to the wheels but when I put he 21.5 back in and run it a few minutes in the garage its getting hot. My friend runs the novak 18.5 in his axial and that things cold all the time.

Check your pinion gear mesh, could be a tad tight.

I ran mine today after modifying a CVD where the pin bent.
With the Xcelorin 17.5, 18T and 3 cell lipo - motor temps were hovering in the 145-150 range, pumpkin temps were 98-110. This was after 15 minutes of runtime, not bashing but crawling in ambient temps of 80 degrees.

I believe these high motor temps were as a result of the CVD not being 100% efficient with the fix I did. Just a little bit of drag can heat up a motor. Even with worm gears, I expect to see motor temps closer to 110-125.

The only other issue to report so far was my dig wouldn't shift into rear dig at all. After a complete teardown and inspection I discovered that the e-clip holding one of the shift forks on the shaft wasn't completely seated, causing it to not allow full travel. Snapping it on the rest of the way solved the problem.

Quick gear grease question, we have some Mobile 1 synthetic automotive grease here at the house, can I get away with using that in a pinch? I haven't been able to run it yet, but how do you guys think a Revenge of the Monster HP stock (27t) motor with a 12t pinion would work until I can get a 35t off back order?

That motor has 24* of timing, so it won't like going in reverse for long;-) but would probably work alright to get started with. Until you try it, never know.

That's what I was figuring, it was used in my M03 for a little while, but if some of you guys are having issues with smoked motors, I wonder if I should put the Monster Stock that I'd abused for a lot longer in that car to make sure I have nothing to worry about...................

I ran a piece of paper between the pinion and main gear so I'm sure the mesh is fine.

I also noticed the rear end was a lot warmer then the front after driving around for a little while. I opened it up and re greased so I'll have to see if that helps in the morning.

I had planned on running an FX-R with a 55 turn motor, straight from my current crawler. It sounds now like this might be a mistake. Is anyone trying 55t motors at all, or do I need to go ahead and plan on putting a 35 or lower in it? (don't have the truck yet, just trying to plan) Will be running 3c lipo.

Well for the past few weeks I've been running a Brushed motor in my Losi and just wanted to post some pics and tech for everyone.

I'm using a Team Brood 35t handwound geared with a 18 tooth pinion and Mamba Max speedo, all powered by a Losi 3s lipo pack.

The power you get is about the same at a 55 turn and 3s in a TLT or Axial type crawler. You'll have plenty of torque and wheel speed and get about 30 minutes of runtime out of it. Nothing gets hot or shuts down so this setup is a great starting point if you don't want to go brushless with your rig.

Here's some pics...

Rubbaneck, I've tried this setup...have gone to a 16T as well. I am having all kinds of motor heat issues.

Using the same brand motor, an even better Lipo 35C/65C 11.1V and the only difference is a Tekin FX-R.

Worm gears/Axles were re-greased and temps are great there.

Grasping to understand why I'm getting such different results.

Did you have any drag brake setup on the CC ESC? Wondering if that could be the cause on the FX-R? I believe my drag is dialed out to the lowest but may still be "on".

Could that cause this?
