I can always run through the BEC if i want to power via under 11.1v, right?

With that last setup, just plug the controller into the winch channel. Plug the double Deans between your ESC and battery. Your winch will be getting battery voltage!
 
You are correct, the pot is no longer used. In most cases, it gets removed.
Did you desolder the motor from the circuit board?
 
Yes, you are on the right track.



Your setup is a little more difficult than some because the motor is soldered to the circuit board.
If you have some sort of vacuum desoldering tool, it will help, but probably all you need to do is get the solder melted, one motor terminal at a time, and then tap the servo firmly on your table top so that the solder flows out and away from the pin. Then if the motor is still stuck to the circuit board, insert a slim screw driver tip between the motor case and the circuit board next to one of the motor terminals while heating the terminal and solder pad and you can slowly pry away one side at a time until it is free.

I just got my 4 amp controller. Plugged it up and running a KMS K3 SW180. It runs smooth spooling out and it sputters pulling in. In videos I've seen of this combo it didn't sputter when spooling in. Any suggestions? Thanks!

Check your end point adjustments on your Tx.;-)


It's zero'd out and I tried adjusting it and it continues. I'll try to get a video. If I unplug the winch you can here the controller popping erratically just as the winch did spooling.

Like Norton says, it really looks like the end point for one direction isn't set far enough. On some remote controls it is called Travel Adjustment.
You mentioned that it is zeroed out. I think is in regard to the trim adjustment, and it does look like that is working properly as the winch stops when you want it to.

So turned out I destroyed my first servo motor (overheated it trying to desolder it)

New servo came in today and wired up the controller and I'm golden! Now just need to cutout the bumper and run a little brake line as a guide for the servo cable

Your not the first to ruin or break the servo motor doing this:shock: ,,Have fun with it That servo shuold have lots of power,,,"thumbsup"
 
One last question.

I got my winch setup, wired in, and line run.

My question may or may not be answerable by you. Might be Losikid.

But, i'm running the GT3C hacked using channel 3 trim as winch control. When i press either direction, there is a slight delay, then it spools. It also stays spooling a second after releasing. Basically i managed to pull my winch hook through the fairlead after not stopping the winch from spooling quick enough.

Is this a delay in the radio or is it the relay? Is this even something i can fix?

I just plugged one of these controllers into my servo tester and ran it from a three position switch. There is really no perceptible delay from when I flip the three position switch until the controller operates.

Maybe plug a servo into the winch channel of your receiver and see if it is moving slowly as well.

I will try and remember tonight when I get home to do this same test with my modified GT3B and let you know what I find.
 
Just wanted to pop in.

Just a MAJOR thanks to Al!! He has gone above and beyond helping me get my relay winch setup working properly (From his end, it worked exactly as it should)

My problem was i hadn't set the Dual Rates for the channel on my TX correctly. Not Al's problem, it was my goof, but he still took the time and helped me get it setup and the winch works perfectly (Even though he's fighting the flu)!!

Thanks Al! And i highly recommend this setup for anyones winch!!
 
So how would this work with the 2 position winch control that I have of yours already.

If you were to connect this controller to a two position channel, you wouldn't be happy. It would wind in or out, but no stop.

I can make a two position channel version of this winch controller for $5 more. Send me a PM if you would like one.
