Will it work with a winch as it is, or does it have to be modded, I am slightly confused.

Will traxxas 4ch Tqi work with a winch?

No it won't unless modded. You need a 3 position switch which the traxxas does not as the top toggle switch runs on 2 different channels. You can mod the 3rd channel from a 2 pos to a 3 pos.

Agreed, you can disassemble the switch and add another notch so the switch stays in its middle position.

The four channel controller does not need a mod you just need to hook s winch controller up to it and it will work I have two of those controllers

Plug a servo into the channel you want to run the winch from. If it can be moved to three positions, you are good to control most winches.
If you only have two positions, you can still work a winch if you use this controller:
Winch Controller for Radio with 2 Position Third Channel
If you need a replacement controller and you have a three position channel, you can use this one:

Is it a momentary switch, does the tqi have a momentary switch, i hear the 3 way u can strip the gears if u dont turn off the switch in time.

The TQI four channel will work stock. Me an my brother have that controller and just put the winch controller in the fourth channel.

Hey i tried hooking my winch up to CH3 and CH4 and I cant seem to get the winch to turn off, its either always going out or coming in.... U sure i Dont need to mod the controller? I have a rc4wd bullydog winch.

The older ones will work as they are only 4 channels, with the 4th channel being the 3 way switch.
The newer models have a 5 channel receiver with down on the 3 way switch being 4th, and up on the switch being 5th, or vice versa, i cant remember.
So basically you want one that only uses the 4 channel receiver, i believe its the gray controllers, when they switched to black plastic i think they switched to 5 channels.

The winch should only be hooked up to one channel, should be the 4th channel only. The 3rd channel is the red switch on the grip.

Yeah i ended up doing a mod so the top switch is now ch4... Although I do notice when i use the winch now it starts to vibrate and slowly releases the steel cable... I cant figure it out, so now when i use it i have to turn the truck off and back on again to turn the winch vibration off.... Kinda annoying but at least the switch works now.

Can you give me details on the mod? So basically now the chrome switch now is a 3 position switch ?

Thanks. I saw that mod. But I thought that mod works of channel 3. Making switch channel 3 now. I hoping to get chrome switch to work winch and rocker(red button ) to work 2 speed. You think it's possible?

All you need is a 3 way toggle switch and solder it in place of the original switch."thumbsup"

Yes thats exactly what I have done.. The red rocker is gear 1 and 2 on my trail finder 2, and the chrome switch is now a 3 pos switch controlling my winch. Before chrome switch if you push it to the left was CH4 and to the right was CH5 but u cross wires to make it CH4 both ways + neutral losing CH5.
