"Why I don't go to comps".....not looking for comp guy replies....

What I always liked about off-roading, ATVing, rock crawling; and now rc crawling is that you get to compete against the terrain. Against yourself. Also love backpacking, hiking, and shooting. You can make it whatever you want. I have no interest in showing some dude that I can hammer my junk over a rock faster than his. Just doesn't appeal to me.

After doing this for nearly a year, I would love to make it to one. But there are nothing local and I'm not interested in traveling 8hrs+. I guess I'll just have to be happy doing it with my 5 year old son who, so far, loves crawling and trailing!

Lancaster, PA? If so, what shop?

For me I would say it boils down to information. I picked up my scx10.2 kit at the local hobby store and they did tell me they are in the process of building an indoor crawling track.

I have only been back in rc for a little over a month and just finishing up my third kit. I'm keeping an eye out for any events locally, I would attend for sure.

Up in Duluth there are two rc shops and I've been told at each that they can't keep up competition with online stores and it seems like they've given up on anything but 2wd truck racing which apparently has a huge following up here. A lot of the ~35 year old generation have rigs they haven't run in years both 1:8-10 and 1:1 because of the increasingly difficult dnr. Same goes for wheelers and sleds, seems like the govt wants people inside watching tv ...

Still waiting to get my first crawling rig, but I LOVE RC in general. Seeing my short course truck fly 30ft over a triple while trying to position myself for the best cornering speed has always been more appealing to me then seeing how far my car can make it up a bunch of rocks (yes terrible over generalizaion). Now that could all change after I get my first rig. But speed and the pure rush I get as my car hangs midair (hoping for the best landing) seems it wont be quite as present.

Crawling does seem to benefit from the pure availability of areas to run in, less effort needed to prepare a course and mirroring full size vehicles (LOOK COOL!). So who knows...

I am new to crawling and rc in general and haven't got a crawler yet. I did get a Team Associated SC28 and it's fun but that is more for indoor use. As I near retirement age I want something slow that I can bring for walks around the local trails and parks. I live in a big city but we have a lot of green space and excellent places for off road fun or rock crawling.

The competition is boring, it's much more fun to just get a group of guys together and have fun. I don't want to spend 2 hours somewhere and run the truck for 30 mins. I want to show up, have fun, and go home.

It's much funner to hang out and mess around, trying to tackle different obstacles, and not worry about gates, markers and other silly stuff. Also some of the people there take it way to seriously and ruin the fun.

I'm not big on the events due to them usually being scale based and like others have talked about gates and cones, however eventually I'd like to try it out at least once. While my truck probably won't ever look as scale as most or be the best crawler, I'd rather just go out and have a good time with friends, have a few beers and enjoy the day.

At 60+ I don't feel compelled to prove myself to anyone! I find slow crawling and trail running to be relaxing and an excuse for me to get outdoors much like fishing. Competition is great for those who are so inclined, but event organizers and clubs should recognize that not everyone is interested in competing.

+1 I want to relax. I raced off road buggies in the 80s ruined the hobby for me, took until last year to buy a new rc truck.

Formal organized hobbies can destroy a relaxing hobby, I ripped up my train layout and sold every last bit of it because of NMRA rivet counters.

Did I mention that I hate fishing?

I quit BASS and Tyrants Unlimited aka TU also.

I don't go crazy with the scale thing on rc, models are so overpowered compared to 12" to the foot scale its insane, I climbed a set of stairs today with my Bomber by hopping up one step at a time.
My rc boat goes over 60 mph real speed, if scaled up it would be well over 250 mph.:lmao:

My main things were in order:

Price - I thought dropping 400+ on a "TOY" was a bit ridiculous, but after searching for some time, I found that though the initial investment is kind of high, they retain value, like a pistol, for instance. So it's not blowing 400 bucks, it's making an investment of fun for your future! Also, I figured it would break easily, and be a money pit. My SCX10 has proved me wrong on that aspect!

Info - (or lack thereof!) Not many people know about crawling. Many who do, think it's lame, because the rigs don't blast around at a quarter the speed of sound. I live in a small, one-light town, that has an RC group and track, when I approched them and wanted to convert one of two old unused dirt courses to a crawler track, I got pretty much booed out of the club. It's not about speed, it's about skill and driving!

Atmosphere - Like many others here, I am not so competitive, that I need to win to have fun. I got this rig because I love 4wd-ing, and 1:1 scale wheeling get expensive quickly! It is about skill and capability of man and machine against the terrain. I don't need someone counting points on the line I followed. As a mechanical engineer, I have a great appreciation for the various systems that work together to put the capability of out trucks in the palm of our hands. That is a beautiful expression of the innovative and wonderful mind of man.

All that said, I am not opposed to competing or even spectating competitions, but comps are not the reason I crawl, nor will they be a reason I keep crawling. (for now, at least!)

My reason are pretty simple and you cant use it for much, but here in Denmark there are no comps for crawlers or scalers.
There are some people driving scalers but for instance in Aarhus the #2 largest town here we ( me and my friend ) dident manage to find more than 2 other guys wanting to go drive scalers too, and they was whipped so we only saw them a few times.

ATM we found some ( 6-7 ) new people to drive with but this mean we got to drive 70 - 110 km to get to them or them to visit us, but we have begun using flags / gates and a lightweight rule book.
Maybe that will evolve to a comp one day, but for now my friend at least are planning to go for a G6 event in Germany or other place down south in 2018.

That if if one of his rigs can comply or be made to comply with the rules for a class.

This weekend there is a G6 event in Poland, but you need a passport to go there my friend say so he aint going.
