"Why I don't go to comps".....not looking for comp guy replies....

I never thought the scale comps were in any way scale or realistic........as in .....lets winch up what would be a scale 100ft cliff and launch off the other side to get through the course in less than 6 min......lol......not scale at all.......courses all seem be modified comp crawler courses.....personally I think they should stop calling them scale comps altogether.........

I take the term "scale" with a grain of salt when it comes to RC. You can scale down the vehicle, but you can't scale down the physical forces that act on that vehicle. Look at off road racing. When I got into RC in the 80s, the cars were still somewhat scale racers. In the 90s, the scale aspect started going by the wayside in lieu of performance for 1:1 physics.

I don't because honestly, being new to the RCRC realm, it's a little intimidating to think about taking on a technical course with my pretty much stock RC and actually being competitive. Not to mention, I have no idea where to go to get more practice with navigating a course and clearing gates. I mostly run my Bomber over the rip-rap near my house. I am still doing my research for events and groups near me my local hobby shop obviously favors short course racing so id have to do some networking to find out about local groups and events.

I used to race a lot and just got sick of spending too much time and money on rc cars. Traded one of my cars for a rig and have been loving it ever since. I'm in the country so I'm not concerned about finding riding places. I can spend hours in my own yard, for free.

That's what como crawling is for ......

I don't know where to go, don't know S about comps, and if I did show up I'd look like a jackass cause I wouldn't have a clue WTF I was doing. I think that pretty much sums it up....

just had an experience in a local regional competition.. my scx10 categorized in the "extreme class" because it had a lexan body..
after running the designated four gates system, I noticed my rig is somehow exhausted...

and still after experiencing it, I still hold my position as Never Again Going Into a regional competition especially the ones in my country, untill it has a fun competition like the axial-fest

I just want to run my rig for the FUN of IT, competiting in a competition takes up more money than I can spend

it's FUN FACTOR I'm looking for.. yeaaaaaaaaaah

I was in the estimating business. Clients paid me good money not to make mistakes. The pressure and stress was extreme. Now retired I try to live a stress free life --I run my two rigs just for fun.

Main reason... Time. Too many hobbies/ Kids....

However If I found something local to 18966, Id make a family trip out of it! Where is a good spot to hear about local upcoming events....

Barrier to entry for the "new guy', instead of welcoming and "let me show you what we do"..ignored because you are not the same 6 people over and over in "their club" etc - .you have to learn from zero and figure it out on your own....so "see ya".....not worth it....

I am in this for fun and relaxation, not interested in spending a lot and travel to compete.

My sentiments exactly. I'm interested in GTG, not a competitive person, more interested in having a more skilled driver show me how to get my crawler over an obstacle I am struggling with and learning. No desire to "beat" anyone else. Pleasure comes from improving my own driving. If comps had a "play" course running at the same time, I think that would make it more attractive for us "non-comp" folks. I also need events that are kid friendly so I can bring my kids.

Composed with Swype on mobile. not responsible for typos.

For me I would say it boils down to information. I picked up my scx10.2 kit at the local hobby store and they did tell me they are in the process of building an indoor crawling track.

I have only been back in rc for a little over a month and just finishing up my third kit. I'm keeping an eye out for any events locally, I would attend for sure.

In m area we are starting to see a lot of interest in RCcrawling, a local 4x4 shop carries a ton of Axial stuff and some Traxxas but mostly Crawler orientated. The guys AND gals down there are building a few courses and want people to come try them out to get some feedback. Cool bunch of people and a lot of know how. They said they may do some comps if they get enough interested and prizes would be mostly parts and gift certificates to the shop. I'll give them a go if enough are going to get into it, but I cant justify traveling more than tem miles or so and or being to serious about comping. If its fun and we manage to make some friends and maybe pick up a little swag then cool.

I've been to about 3 comps in my hobby career, I go to comps because where I live is all flat and there aren't many areas to crawl, mind that I may do two comps a year however I still have a blast and its nice to be able to network in the hobby community. Sims times I'll take weeks off from rcs and sometimes I'll be a finatic about it.

Mainly?

Because I find that, while you can get great advice and tips, it stills tends towards comp driving.

I always feel pressured to get the greatest overkill thing when I need an upgrade or ask advice, cause that's what all the comp guys have, right? The Mamba Max Monster XXXL Plus Double Power Puller MUST be what I need!
