wheely king vs crawler king

I would go with the Axial SCX10 on 35t motor on 3s with 18/87 gearing, now that's fast"thumbsup"

Crawler to Wheely Conversion

Apparently they discontinued the Land Rover body CK and sold them off for cheap. Tower is out of them now, but there are still a few available at different places if you look. I picked up one at my local Hobby shop for $104. I went in there just for tires for my Evader, but couldn't resist the price. Funny, because Tower still sells the Jeep version for $240.

The problem is I got tired of crawling pretty fast. My kids found it boring and I eventually realized that what had really wanted was a monster truck. Since the Crawler King evolved out the crawler conversion kit for the Wheely King, I figured it must be possible to go the other way. So far, I have swapped the motor for the Saturn that comes in WK and a 22T pinion, moved the servo to the axle, and made my own lower brace out of aluminum plate. I used the HR bracket to mount the servo, but it sits the servo up very high and I was unhappy by the loss of articulation caused by this. I ended up reversing the chassis back the the WK's battery in the back configuration, so the servo has more room. I also fabricated a tie rod out of aluminum bar to further beef up the steering.

Its a lot more fun now. It still crawls a bit, but it also jumps. My only problem is that it is still too top heavy for the speed and tends to roll if you don't slow way down for the turns. I am figuring that stiffer springs are next, but I am wondering if I will also need wider lower profile tires like the ones that come on WKs. Do you guys have any suggestions? I was also looking at axle extenders, but cannot find a picture of them installed, so I don't understand exactly how they work. I am also thinking I should replace the locker with diff gears in at least the front to improve steering. All my online searches have only turned up people converting WK to crawlers; I have not found anything about going the other way.
